The Queen rode in her new coach to open parliament today. It contains metal from a 617 squadron Lancaster, a Spitfire and a Hurricane. Amazing workmanship.

A truly wonderful gesture by our antipodean brothers & sisters. I, as an Englishman, would just like to offer huge thank you. This coach is a most beautiful work of art. Much thought, time and skill has gone into this project. Well worth waiting for. Well done.

Well, as a piece of design I think it’s monstrously kitsch, but the workmanship is undoubtedly superb.

the wheels are quite special , Traditionally made of wood, these are cast in longer-lasting aircraft aluminium by Australian racing car designer, Terry Sainty, and have roller bearings to ensure the smoothest ride.
“They are made from extremely strong and light aero-grade aluminium and use the technology we use for our drag racing,’’ Mr Sainty, 44, said yesterday.”

Do you think it will be going back next year to get all the Scottish bits chiselled off? Nice job though on the build, superb workmanship and what a gift.
No, the Scottish bits won’t be chiselled off. In the event of Independence, the Queen will remain the Queen of Scotland. To do with the fact the crown descends from the Scottish James VI who became the English James 1.

A great piece of craftmanship, good to see the skills are still around.

To be fair I did hope the aviation content referred to wings that popped out of the sides like on Danger Mouse’s car.

Electric windows in a horse drawn coach…who would have thought?
Are the horses real or some sort of high tech zero emissions robots?

hi,
that,s truly amazing, it,s a rolling history lesson of Gt. Britain. Even a sliver of wood with Douglas Bader,s name by it ( dare I say it could be from the S…. hotel,)
50 people 10 yrs to build, the thought of what to include…
