Well, I’ve not seen a post like this here before, and I am quite interested in hearing the reasons why some of you have the usernames you have.
So, lets here the reasoning. I’ll start.
My username, Bmused55, comes from a time (circa 3 years ago) where I was planning on starting a small graphics design company by the name of Bmused.
One day, I went to create an account on a graphics design forum and found the username bmused was already registered, as an alternative it offered me Bmused55 which I chose.
It stuck since then. All the forums I frequent or frequented I use(d) the username Bmused55.
I never did start the company, although my friend and I got close to doing so.

Me… I chose this “tag” as it is something I’ve done as a hobby for over 15 years now. Started by accident as it were at Sywell back in 1980something and not stopped since.
I use a derevation of it on several forums. and the Avatar is me albeit blown up a bit at “work” at Turweston a year or two ago. There is a reason why orange but I won’t bore you anymore.
Maybe you’re a fan of the Dutch football team? 😀 🙂

Nah, ‘fraid not! I was just a lowly revenue accounts supervisor, now doing the same at Monarch (Scheduled). The skies are so much safer with me on the ground!
Dont mean to cause offence but didnt Gill Airways go into admin the first time because of bad accounting (i know they closed as bank backing with withdrawn therefore no running captial) :p

Aaaaah, the mighty Shed, 0-8000ft in about 20 minutes, queen of the skies
lol! Excellent, but I think he might mean the A330 of Airbus? :p
As for me, another straightforward one. T5 being Terminal 5 at Heathrow.
By: Moondance - 9th June 2004 at 19:03
330 clearly refers to the best modern airliner flying today… :p

But could this year’s Cropredy be the last? Seen RT on tour recently? – if not you missed a treat, he’s in truly awesome form.
As for myself, a favourite song, seemed appropriate as I was doing nothing but nights when I started using it.
It appears that Cropredy is ok. From what I can gather, Rob Braviner, the sound man, has bought it & it should continue for many years.
I haven’t caught RT on tour unfortunately but I did go to Manchester last weekend to see Fairport (see my trip report BIQ-CDG-MAN-CDG-BIQ for more details). As much as I like RT and love seeing him in Cropredy, we need good weather so in that respect I hope the “rain god” is not there 😉 !

…and now Britannia is calling themselves Thomson Fly in the UK whilst the name Britannia is still used in Sweden.
No need to shout though, I can read small letters perfectly well. 😉
Britannia is still Britannia, just with thomson.co.uk titles on the side of it’s aircraft. Still using BY flight code etc.
ThomsonFly is the low cost arm of Britannia.
On a slightly related note… I noticed in this years Skytours brochure they are selling holidays to Majorca and Ibiza from Coventry with TOM aircraft. This amazed me, after they advertise the inflight service and other things with Britannia and then have some flights operated by the Britannia lo-co arm.

Sorry about that…I was just trying to make my post stand out from the many others!
Seriously though, having made a significant profit last year (the only part of the group to do so well) it has been a bit gut wrenching to see all the benefits head eastwards.
Once I again I sympathise, it pains me to work for a profitable and lean division, only to see the benefits shifted southwards to shore up a cash hungry and inefficient operation at GHQ.

If the boot had been on the other foot the outcome would have undoubtedly been very different. This can also be shown by the fact that several years ago several of our pilots were on contracts with Condor. One day the Germans decided to kick out all 32 British pilots. This year TCX were forced to take on 8 Lufthansa cadets with no experience. All’s fair in love and war (but only if you are German).

a better/more recognised worldwide name to trade under than their own name, which had its own roots based almost solely in the German market, and chose to change their name rather than make us in the UK change.

Bearing in mind the German operation is massively in bed with Lufthansa (we in the UK had the Lufthansa uniform and SOPS forced on us!) I have never quite got my head round the following: 60 years ago my dad flew Spitfires and fought against the Luftwaffe, 60 years later I am effectively employed by Lufthansa. Now can someone remind me who exactly won that war?
Tis a funny old game, but what would your dad say about you flying planes owned by a hairy faced former student hippy with a penchant for the youngest “Virgins” in the industry ?

Can’t let that one slip without a bit of qualification!
Thomas Cook was doing just fine as a UK concern when the German owners (Preussag, now TUI) decided that they needed to release their interest in TC so that there would be no conflict of interest with their puchase of Thomson. The result was a sale to C&N Touristik (a part of which is Condor). C&N Touristik themselves decided that the historic name of Thomas Cook (a business that has been trading for over 150 years) was a better/more recognised worldwide name to trade under than their own name, which had its own roots based almost solely in the German market, and chose to change their name rather than make us in the UK change.
AT NO POINT DID ANYONE IN THE UK FORCE ANYTHING ON THE GERMANS SO I FAIL TO SEE HOW CONDOR WERE ‘RAPED’ BY ANYONE OTHER THAN THEIR OWN MANAGEMENT!!!

…and the pride of the German charter airlines was Condor…Until they got raped by Thomas Cook…

OK, longwinded but here we go, about 10 years ago I started Carpetbagging building societies and mutual insurers by putting £100 in an account and wailing for them to convert to PLC’s thus releasing shares and cash to members. I have bagged over £10,000 !!!!
I used to belong to a carpetbagging forum (hense the bag) and when I came to register I was eating Cheese on toast at the time, thus the Cheese bit!!!
Nothing to do with aviation I know, but it’s stuck.
thats gotta be the wierdest yet!
LOL
