114177
I noticed an error on the Nanton website for tutor 114177. The picture showing 114177 flying upside down and it states that the photo plane is 114130, it should be 114030.

114037
Yes Planecrazy. 114037 is now at Borden for training. Interesting to hear your comments that more are going to borden The hangar is stuffed right now so unless they are retiring some of the older ones?? Our tutor was originally going to go up on a post but after seeing her overall coondition especially once she was repainted as a snowbird minds changed and she is on display in our cramped hangar. I am picking up parts for her from time to time and recently our museum was able to acquire a set of seats and smoke tanks for her!

tutor Jet
Peter:
I am not in the military.I have an interest in aviation. I noticed on another site that someone saw 114037 on a DND truck. Supposedly, there are 10 to 15 more tutors being sent to Base Borden from Mountainview to be used as training aircraft and 114037 is one of them. I saw some pictures of 114177 on the internet and it looks like a great job was done on the restoring of this aircraft. Is it true that this aircraft will not be put up on a pedestal as originally planned? Do you belong to the Nanton Air Museum?

114178 is a favourite
This tutor is the sistership to ours in Nanton and was the first Tutor I had my photo taken standing near at our local airport back in around 1976. I will try and find out what tutor is no longer used.
Are you still active at borden then?

114178
114178 is at Base Borden and was displayed as a full aircraft when I saw it. Just wondering why you would pick 114178? What did you hear about a tutor that was put outside and could not be used anymore?
By: Peter - 2nd May 2007 at 14:40
Non use?
I had heard one of them was not to be used anymore and was parked outside. Would love to be able to pick one of the nonflyers up! Have my eye set on 114178

Tutor 114151
Peter:
There are a few tutors at Base Borden that are in two pieces. They are still being used for training aids.

Planecrazy?
114151 why is she in two parts? Is this the one that can no longer be used for training aid?

RedKnight
Tutor 114153 is at Base Borden and is painted in the Golden Centennaires paint scheme. Tutor 114151 is also at base Borden , but it is in two parts. This aircraft is in the 1976 paint scheme for the Snowbirds.

One last time with a Tutor Red Knight just for posterity – sounds fun.
Interestingly enough… ‘153 flew with the Snowbirds in 1975.
and ‘154 had flown with the Golden Centennaires in 1967.
Anything in your records as to their current disposition Peter?
P.S. just as a side note… while tracking info for some illustrations, I found that, in terms of the aerobatic team Tutors, ‘151 seems to have had the greatest pedigree, having flown with the Centennaires, and then the Snowbirds from inception until at least 1974.

Thanks James.
Wouldnt it be great to get a Tutor painted up as the Red Knight and do airshow work again for even just one season?

Red Knight Tutors
Hey Peter,
the Red Knight(s) flew two Tutors in 1968 and 1969.
Capt. Dave Curran and Capt Joe Houlden were the Red Knights for 1968.
1969 was flown by Lt. Brian Alston and Capt. Bob Cran. (Capt. Joe Houlden worked with Alston during work up but had no desire to fly the show)
Funding for the Knight was axed in 1970 and the Knight was no more.
James

Thanks Albert!
I had heard that they used 2 tutors serial 113153 and 114154?
By: ALBERT ROSS - 17th April 2007 at 21:53
Ask Albert?
Hi Peter,
Indeed the “Red Knight” was a single all-dayglo red T-33, sometimes erroneously referred to as the “Red Knights” by those that thought there was a team! The Red Knight operated for ten years during 1959-1969 from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. The first pilot was Flt.Lt.Roy Windover, the pilots changing each season. Several different T-33s were used over the years including 21057,21574 and 21630 and were all equipped to make smoke. The T-33A was replaced by a Canadair Tutor for the 1968 and ’69 season and only one is known to have been used, being 26154 which was not dayglo red, but a vermillion red colour. The last performance was at the end of the 1969 season. One of the Red Knight T-33s is preserved in the Rockcliffe, Ontario collection.
