The main reason you need them is because over hundreds of years they have manipulated the application of the law so that only they can administer it and extort money from laymen. Its the only proffesion which does not contribute in a positive way to society.

Everybody hates lawyers until they need one. (And I’m not a lawyer, I’m a writer.)

Was/is there a disclaimer on the spectator tickets and at the venue?

In the U. S., at least, such disclaimers are worthless as anything but toilet paper.

Our injury Lawyers don’t even wait until you have an accident.
Two incidents which have happened to me in the last month.

First a text on my mobile saying please contact us regarding you recent accident. What accident I have not had one recently? just deleted that.

Second a phone call at 7.30 at night on my home phone wanting to discuss my recent accident and would I like to claim! I told them I was tired out and would they contact me the next day at South Gloucestershire Trading Standards where I work and I gave them the main switchboard number.
He could not get of the phone fast enough!

I do that to all unsolicited calls now.:D

I have seen such disclaimers on tickets in the UK before and its not unheard of for the Commentators at a show to mention the risks of airshows before a show has started. I wonder if such things would cover an incident as awful as this though.

Probably not:

Under UK law, the validity of disclaimers is significantly limited by the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977. By virtue of the Act, a business cannot use a contract term or a notice to exclude or restrict its liability for negligence causing death or personal injury.

Re para 2 of post #25. There are a number of specialist hospitals (in many countries) who cater for these persons!
HTH (but I know it won’t)

I think it is sad that people died, but in life, can we really hold everybody else responsible, when at the heart of it, we could share a little bit of the culpablility ourselves by attending that event?
Kind Regards,
Scotty

I understand your point, butI can’t quite agree with it.

I assume that people will do dangerous pastimes whether we’re there or not.
Like a mountain climber or Campbell setting speed records, some people are driven to do things whether or not there are spectators.

The owner/pilot of the Mustang was a wealthy man. He was not racing for the money to put food on the table..the prize money isn’t that great compared to the expenses (like a Merlin rebuild) and he wasn’t in the race for fame. Today’s air race pilots aren’t household names like they were in the “Golden Days” of air racing in the late 20s-early 30s. Heck, the race results don’t make the back page of most newspapers.
Like a lot of pilots, he was flying for the challenge and the exhilaration of flying a Mustang “flat out”.
I’ve flown in jets a low altitudes, and flying that close to the ground at 500 mph is certainly a thrill.

I have no desire to see people hurt or killed an an auto or aircraft race and I’m sure seeing a wreck would terribly affect me.
But I don’t think I’d feel any culpablility in their death.
The drivers and pilots are following their own path and each will meet their own fate…whether I’m watching or not.

But in todays claim culture it just means the vultures are circling as soon as the dust dies down 🙁 .

Actually…. they were probably out of the circuit and on finals BEFORE the dust settled!

Philosophy of GMS: Lawyers, Bankers and Insurance Salesmen = Parasites on the a*shole of humanity!

I wouldn’t bother trying to reason, Eddie. The majority appear to subscribe to the view expressed by Shakespeare in Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2, line 86!

I dont claim to know Shakespeare but I like this line:-

‘The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.’
