Heads up regarding The Restoration Man tonight. Featuring a project about the RAF bunker that was linked to Duxford during part of the war. Hopefully it will be including some of the Harvard flying scenes from Duxford filmed last month in abreak between all the rain.

I believe that the bunker itself is at Watnall, Notts – a brief mention about the programme can be found in this link http://www.nottinghampost.com/Secret-bunker-given-stunning-TV-makeover/story-20609750-detail/story.html
Watnall was the HQ site that covered Duxford during the Batttle of Britain- Leigh-Mallory’s hideout, so its history is very important. Nice to see part of it being bought back to life. I’d love to go down into the underground parts, alas it is full of water.

Watched the programme… the bunker is nowhere near finished – not even being lived in yet. Very interesting resto though.
Rumour has it, a squadron of disused Spitfires were buried next to it…

I didn’t see the programme (catch-up TV beckons) however the owner has just been interviewed on local radio. He sounded committed to the project; he indicated that he intends to leave the filter room intact to allow visitors to what he plans to be a B & B to be able to go and look at the original equipment in situ!
