The Royals visit to NZ and Australia

I was reading the itinerary for the Duke and Duchess’s tour of New Zealand and Australia. They are to visit Peter Jackson’s collection at Omaka ‘hopefully if the weather is good, a flying display.’ They are also to visit the Wigram Airforce museum near Christchurch. In both New Zealand and Australia they will visit an airforce base and take part in ANZAC day ceremonies. Maybe we might get a few minutes TV coverage?

They are visiting the home of Wings over New Zealand and Wings Over Cambridge tomorrow too, right here in Cambridge. Actually, it’s past midnight so I should say today!

before coming to Cambridge, Prince William is also visiting Pacific Aerospace Ltd at Rukuhia, just down the road, and he’ll be flying ina NZ designed and built PAC 750XL aircraft.

There was some flying earlier in the day, but the weather closed in a bit not long after they arrived. Still, it was light drizzle and quite mild.

The Anson is now Omaka based and has been for about a year already.

Yes, too damp.
I noticed some media reports mentioned that the Pup was Sir Peter’s. However it is not either of TVAL’s Pups, but Chariots of Fire’s ZK-SPH, a Pfeiffer-built Le Rhone powered 1961 replica. The Anson Mk1 is Robin and Bill Reid’s Nelson-I-mean-Omaka-based ZK-RRA.

Thanks for the links. It looks like the climate was too damp for any flying.

They popped over Cook Straight in a C-130H, rather than a B757, BTW

Fairly detailed report in NZ Herald

Shorter version (still text) at TV3

Less museum, more veterans in this one, and vid of getting into a Pup replica.

There is a bit about the visit on the Omaka AHC site – and it is not too early to start planning your visit to Classic Fighters Easter 2015 🙂

Presumably prep for the visit was the reason for a RNZAF B757 landing at Queenstown for the first time.

TVNZ News clips are not normally geo-locked, so you should be able to see some NZ coverage online.
