As happens every year around Russian new year (07JAN), the Russians invade Salzburg to go skiing. The saturdays before and after new year in particular attract a lot of visitors. Below are some of the photos I made last saturday.
As is the case in most of Europe, the weather was crap. Therefor I have limited my photos mostly to night time shots. Most of the photos of the morning and afternoon arrivals where messed up. The visibility was low, even during the moments it was not snowing.
There are more photos on my website. A log will be added sometime this week. It will make for interesting reading if you are into registrations!
Operated by Rosoboronexport, the Russian state arms dealer.
I believe there where five Tatarstan flights. I don’t know yet if there where five different planes as I have not gone through my log. At one time there where three of these on the ramp! Their full fleet is only seven planes strong!
One of four Aeroflot flights using the IL96! Today I spotted three different IL96s!

Lovely shots Peter..nice to see some of the Soviet types for a change instead of the ubiquitous Airbus and Boeing’s

Does the overly-large tailfin of the IL96 give lie to stability problems?
Steve
Hello,
I think it is more to do with the yaw moment arm of the relatively short fuselage.
