The Shepherd – question

I did not want to hijack the haunted airbases thread and my understanding of a recent rules update was that it would not be appropriate to resurrect another thread I found regarding the Shepherd last contributed to in 2008.

My question is, was there any record of pilots making two trips in a night, the second being with the purpose of looking for and guiding stragglers home? It is not something I had previously read about and I imagine it is reasonably unlikely that it happened. On the flip side, Forsyth was a fighter pilot and may have heard of something like it. Would be interesting to know.
