Dear All,
The Spitfire Society will be holding its annual general meeting on Saturday 5 May at 1.30pm at the Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon. There will be two presentations by well regarded and award winning authors Paul Beaver and Leo McKinstry, who will be available to sign books and speak to attendees. We will also have a trailer for Spitfire The Feature Documentary film due for release later this year, see clips below.
If you would like to attend as a non-member please let me know as we need to cater for numbers and to find out how to join the Society please click here. Merchandise will be available to buy and we hope to have free lapel badges available for members at the event.
Kind regards
Daniel Scott-Davies

Dear Steve,
Please send me an email with your membership details and I’ll check your membership status.
Also more than happy to answer questions about the status of the Society. You’ll find that the website provides quite a lot of information. We’ve financially supported the Secret Spitfires documentary film and this year we will provide grants to students at the University of Southampton. We are also hoping to bring on board a number of patrons as Vice-Presidents.
There are a number of pages regarding events, museums and sites where you can view Spitfire related content. The member’s area includes copies of virtually all periodicals since the Society formed and we’re in the process of cataloguing and digitising the archive and library collections. The ‘Aksel’ Spitfire replica at Beale Park is receiving regular maintenance and we’re planning to improve its condition and interpretation.
In summary the Society is improving and more people are joining who wish to support our aims of promoting the aircraft and the people connected with it.
Kind regards
Daniel

Dear MR Scott-Davies
Are life members who don’t pay into the fund still permitted to attend the AGM? I ask as one who is but doesn’t understand where the Society stands today?

But not to forget Joe Smiths’ massive contribution to the original design and subsequent development after the untimely death of Mitchell.

Well that is an eye opener graphic Mark 12, I had not thought of aircraft design this way….

Mitchell was the Chief Engineer who had the vision of the deliverable and skill to guide the teams/departments to achieve the objective.

Well theres a lot of hero worship of Winston Churchill and ignores negative aspects…
On subject I would suggest that even back then the design of a Spitfire was so complex it involved more than one person. How about this chap ? https://www.spitfireclub.co.uk/joe-smith

So yet again some idiot comes along and tries to change history, why give this person time of day ?
“Mr Beaver is also happy to commit heresy by saying RJ didn’t design the Spitfire, although he did put the team together who did”
However he is right there is nothing like a spitfire 🙂

Sounds nice. Paul Beaver is not quite right about the doc being the first about people. I.e. including people who built it. Secret Spitfires covered the people often forgotten….the Rosies, the ground crew, other builders etc
