Kevin Mount left his name on quite a few crash sites – though always only in chalk, as here, so no harm done – he was certainly an enthusiast and really helped me get started in this hobby – He arranged trips back to crash sites for several veterans / survivors and even put together one of the early books on crash sites concentrating on his own area of Lancashire, long before the access to original records we enjoy today – sadly he died from cancer many years ago – RIP

Crumpled is one thing, corroded is another.

‘Fully restored’ would mean a lot a new metal going in, so wouldn’t be worthwhile.

Disagree completely. Look at how Bluebird Project have reused almost all the metal available in their full resto of Donald Campbell’s boat.

I bet they do the same with the Barracuda. Aluminium can be worked back into shape.

And here’s LK488’s fin back in 1973 after a four mile hike to reach it. I had no desire to scribe my name on it …

It is indeed a big aeroplane! The Stirling cockpit that I am loosly assisting to recreate will practically be the size of a Routemaster bus when finished! 😀

I would really love to be able to see a Stirling in all it’s physical glory, just to see its sheer size. 😮

Ii that my old friend Mrs Hepple poking her nose into the photo.

Slingsby T21 VX275 was presented to the Air cadets by a Mrs F D Hepple in 1947. She was the aircraft I took my first passenger for a flight in August 1980. During the time I knew her we always called her ‘Mrs Hepple’ after the plaque she carried in the cockpit.

‘Fully restored’ would mean a lot a new metal going in, so wouldn’t be worthwhile. Given the RAFM’s penchant for displaying scrap I am surprised it doesn’t take pride of place next to the Lanc…

Did LK488 serve with the Chines AF:eek:

:):D

A fully restored tail section put on display at Hendon would at least
give people a chance to see the size of only part of the aircaft. A large sized photograph (as did used to have on the wall) would give an idea of the whole of the airframe.

Would be nice to source such a project out to MAPS for instance after they finished the Defiant.

Nudge nudge wink wink

Cees

And if they built it in the Shorts Tunnels [ still there ][ see youtube] it might
count as original!
