Who has watched this exellent series hosted by Alan Yentob, for me its the documentary series i,ve viewed in a long time,watching Bruce Welch (shadows Rythmn Guitar) display the first Red Fender Stratocaster brought into Britain by Cliff Richard specially for Hank Marvin to use perform all The Shadows hits on was brillant(whats its worth?),also Les Paul the Innovator of multi track recording still playing at 93 amazing stuff, plus the Hendrix Stratocaster he famously torched laid there for all to see it was worth the license fee for once who else agrees

A friend of mine bought a joe strummer replica. He paid £600 for it. He paid all that money and it`s still a Squire made in mexico, what an idiot lol. I`ll stick to my real ones thank you very much.

Really can’t see the point – I buy a new guitar I want just that – a nice new shiny one – not something that looks like it’s been used as a workbench.
I couldn’t agree more! I’m very happy that I personally have put every single dent and scratch in my basses myself. 🙂

[QUOTE=Hornchurch;1316549]Well said Dave
I (personally) think it’s a “mug’s game” going out & buying a ‘New’ beaten up ‘Relic’
Daft in the extreme & amazing to think there are “mug-punters” out there who are gulliable enough to ACTUALLY pay huge sums for a weatherbeaten (NEW) “Relic”:rolleyes:, instead of going out & buying one of the outgoing (2000-2007)’American-series’ Strat’s, or it’s current successor, the “new” ‘American Standard’ (’08 onwards) Stratocasters & allowing them to age naturally, thru regular usage & develop their OWN ‘patina’, digs & dinks
Your “workbench” description is a good ‘un
I bought another Olympic/Maple (’07) “series” this year (June ’08) for £ 630 delivered to my door (it’s L/H, hence dearer)
The new “standards” can be had for another £ 120 (or so) on top…….
I want my Guitars to be “mine” & NOT replicate what some other guys ‘Axe’ looks like, however infuential or famous
I guess in “Fender” parlance, it’s “new-old-stock” for me & allow some other ‘muppet’ to be drawn into the big-money ‘chipped & scratched’ Relic(s)[/QUOTEvery true but ther is obviously a demand for this type of product one has to ask where will it end ?

You can buy repros of almost any well known artist’s guitar now – Fender stick the metal work out in the desert to weather…make the guitar complete with all the dings and scratches.
Really can’t see the point – I buy a new guitar I want just that – a nice new shiny one – not something that looks like it’s been used as a workbench.
Saw the prog – OK but very disjointed IMO.

Only caught part of the final episode; looked pretty-Good to me……
Would like to see the whole series to comment better though
Enjoyed seeing Mr Gilmour & his Black-Strat’ w/Maple neck on board that Barge/Narrowboat/Houseboat/Floating-recording studio !!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
(I’ll let some ‘smart-ass’ correct me :rolleyes:as to it’s exact description; not being a Pink-Floyd fan n’all……..)
