There is a ‘Walrus’ in the tank at the National Marine Aquarium. Here is the story.

From the link at the first post:
“A full-size replica of the plane wreck, a Walrus L2312, was sunk in the aquarium’s shark tank in 2010 to mark the 70th anniversary of the ill-fated secret mission.” –
but they marked it P1111!

P1111 originally was an Airspeed A.S.10 Oxford II

The Walrus Pub
These pics were taken on Wednesday.

When I first visited The Walrus in, I think, 1993, the pub sign at the front had – as Shorty mentions – a Walrus gradually climbing into a dark sky. There wasn’t a mural of any description on the wall back then. Back in ’93 I asked the then landlord what the Walrus flying boat connection was but all he knew was that the name had come from a previous landlord (not his immediate predecessor, but two before that) who had some kind of connection and added that he presumed said landlord was ex-RAF.

I’ve often wondered what that connection was…

I googled it and it still exists. There now appears to be a Spad mural on the wall with the same on the sign.
I last saw the pub & sign back in the early 80’s when we used to stay in the Mayflower around the corner.

We stayed opposite it in a Travelodge a couple of years back. The sign now features (I think) a Fokker Triplane. I was confused by this!

There used to be a pub called the Walrus in Plymouth complete with pub sign showing one (the plane!) flying out over the sea against an angry sky if memory serves. It’s probably been turned into Yuppie flats now.

Very cool. Would love to dive in that tank.
