The Sum of All Fears

Interesting movie, you’ll see alot of Tu-22Ms, A-4s, F-16s, B-2s, and F-4s, anyone know if these are merely models or CG or they actually went out and filmed the actual aircraft?

THe movie is based on a Clancy novel and revolves around an Analysist who is hired for the CIA due to his knowledge of the new Russian President. A neo Nazi intends to use a nuclear bomb to falsely make the Americans believe the Russians attacked and intends for the two to destroy each other.

It seems that alot of the characters seem to remind me of real life people..
for example..the Neo Nazi seems to be Austrian, who’s father was a Nazi soldier, elected politician who had to step down. Reminds me very much of that Austrian prime minister who stepped down.

They also talk alot about a Russian General being a hardliner, reminds me of Aleksander Lebed.

Hi,
Somehow preferred Larry Bond over Clancy, Cauldron and the Korea book(forgot the name) were really good.

NO Tomel,

He’s a pure civilian with an attitude who learned everything as a hobby. Many of America’s best military analysts – David Isby, Steve Zaloga, Joe Bermudez, me ;):) are self-taught – either no military experience, or just a short bit out at the pointy-nasty end.

RE: The Sum of All Fears

Clancy has never had any military related career to speak of, he is, or was an insurance salesman with a strong passion for the Navy. His good buddy (USN retired by now I think) Larry Bond got him started with the novels when they co-produced (Clancy wrote it) HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER out of a war game that the two were working on. The rest is history.

RE: The Sum of All Fears

they’ve changed the plot due to current Arab/Muslim sensitivities…that was one thing being criticized. It wasn’t that the story was just written. I mean “neo-NAZIs”? That’s funny. Should go much better with Islamic Fundamentalists. It’s probably more on the concern that a nuke was detonated (that’s what i’ve heard), and in no mood are Americans are to hear that today, especially from an apparent “success” from these bastards.

RE: The Sum of All Fears

I’ve read the book back in 92.Nice and as usual -Clancy stuffs is full of technical jargon/latest intell info.If they change the plot-no so good idea.Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger could have been a better movie if they stick to the original storylines.

RE: The Sum of All Fears

It’s from the Jack Ryan series, in-between ‘Clear & Present Danger’ and ‘Debt of Honour’. Israeli’s lose an Atomic bomb in 1973, years later the Arabs find it and try to “product improve” it.

Sounds like some things have been changed about a bit, no doubt for the sake of political correctness.

Cheers,
James
