Seems like a perfect day to talk about the weather….
It is supposed to reach around 35 degrees here today, perfect weather just to sit back outside with a cool drink and relax in the heat or meander down for a swim. With the whole week looking up in the 30s I hope we can break the record of 99F and reach a 100F in Britain. Looks like being one of the best summers on record since 76.
Hope you are all enjoying the fantastic weather, obviously there are horrible problems with drought and fires in southern Europe though in the north just enjoy it while it lasts π

Feeling hot, hot, hot.
Local news has been going on about how hot it is β seems an old lady collapsed in the heat in her back garden and her daughter thought sheβd fallen asleep and put a blanket over her! Couple of hours baking in the sun and she is now in hospital recovering.
Heard on the radio of an elderly gentleman who walked along the prom at Bournemouth in suit, shirt and tie, vest (sleeveless t-shirt-like garment worn next to the skin, for our American friends), and rain coat (in this weather!), as everyone else was running around wearing next to nothing, who collapsed and was rushed to hospital to recover. Old people!
Read in the local paper of the rich people suffering on their floating gin palaces at Cowes (Isle of Wight, big sailing week thingy) quenching their thirst with more alcohol and then being recovered to the nearest first aid post suffering from dehydration β only to go back out and repeat the experience!
The rail problem could be worse. My sister is a train driver, and at the moment she is not allowed to drive unless she signed off at her depot over 12 hours previously β and when she suddenly finds that her train terminates in South Wales and it takes her 5 hours to return to her depot to sign off then she is not legally allowed to take her 07:30 out the following morning. This causes people to moan about the lack of a train to work the following morning, etc, so they drive instead and get into traffic jams and get mad. (She gets murderous if you mention leaves on the line!)
Wish I had some time off but I just know it will be wet and windy when my holiday comes around β how was I to know? July and August in Britain can usually be classified as very mild winters!
Flood is still scratching and there are still bleddy moths circling his head.

Me !!!! I’m making for the coast and the first boat out of hear, got to get out of this asylum.
I know, one of the joys of the long summer holidays, rubbing it into other peoples faces π
Yes it is the Battle of Flowers soon isn’t it, lucky old you. I went to it once, awfully tedious. More for the tourists, if I want to I can watch the repeats on ITV. We have to usual annual North, South and West shows here, which are a bit more civilised. Unfortunately I don’t escape the Battle of Flowers and all those strange people but it is on a smaller scale if it is any consolation.
Alderney Week looks actually quite fun for an annual show….pallet racing in Braye Harbour and an Elvis impersonator π

Down under
Well, I was wondering how the weather conditions right now are in Australia, the land down under, where women glow and men plunder. ( always liked that song, one of my favourites).

I know alcohol is bad for you if you are cold, a nip to warm you up might actually kill you because alcohol makes the veins and arteries dilate and makes the warmth that your blood carries end up near your extremities and skin rather than near your body core where it is needed.
If that is true… and I am pretty sure it is then a little alcohol should help keep your core temperature from going up to high (ie heat stroke etc).
If you were to get drunk, lie out in the sun and go to sleep, the combination of drunkeness, heat of the sun and sleep can slow down your metabolism to the point that your heart will stop beating and youll die.

That fog was absolutely depressing yesterday and what made it worse was how BBC news was gloating about how hot London was. After Tuesdays stunning weather (hottest day in Guernsey’s record) it was a real come down with a bump. This morning was again very foggy though it brightened up and I was able to get on the beach so it looks like it is back to summer. π

Sat here in a nice air-conditioned office, can’t tell you what the tempreture is outside, though it’s warmer than yesterday where I reckon we were the coldest in the UK, covered in fog it bearly made 70f.
After a bit of fog this morning the sun is shining so we must be in the high 70’s low 80’s by now.
It’s nearly time to walk to the car, a short walk in the sun before climbing into my climate controlled mobile arm chair.
I reckon it’s Pimms o’ Clock time tonight. What Oh’

This mornings papers were full of the hot weather and how commuters suffered temperatures of 40-45 degrees on crowded underground and buses……………what about the drivers? we had to suffer those temperatures for anything up to 8 hours, at one point the temp in my cab was 48C, I swear Ive lost a few pounds in weight this week.
We still run on time, no melting tarmac or twisting rails stop us from running a service, in fact August is the best month as there are fewer cars on the road due to people on vacations. The only problem we get is overheating, but not to often.
I m afraid Im not a sun worshipper so roll on November and lets have some frost, no bugs or spiders or moths or flys, and I can get a good nights sleep.

For all those who donΒ΄t know that in not in every corner of Spain the sun shines……Galicia is a typical wet british weather (not so cold) and we are having right now 38 degrees which is crazy. Forest fires in neigbouring Portugal are threating our forests too. Please I need some rain……

Only problem we have now in Scotland is the Shellsuit gang wandering around in vest – tops , not especially nice when Parkhead residents actually turn pale blue in the sun π
North Berwick today it hit 84F , my wife and kids are over there with MY Seadoo and I’m stuck in the office π‘ π‘

True, but because you’ll sweat more alcohol will be more concentrated in your blood. After two pints, it feels like you’ve been drinking all night long. Cheap to get drunk though.

It’s not a lack of fitness Geforce. It’s because we are British & therefore not designed for such operating conditions. Give us some soggyness & a bit of wind & we’ll all be happy again.

People will always nag π Doesn’t matter about the weather conditions.
Anyway, I have no problems with this weather. If you can’t stand this kind of temperatures, it means you have a serious health problem. Maybe you’re in a bad shape, try some sports.
And don’t touch beer. Just water.

I know how you feel Flood. It got up to 42 degrees in one of the offices at work yesterday. Fortunately we have an air conditioned control room to hide in.
Try a few beers, that may work, if not, at least get the cat drunk to calm it down.
You have to laugh at the state of transport in Britain. I’ve been out in Germany for 3 years & the local buses & trams are superb whatever the weather. It’s not like it never gets hot or snows in the UK is it, yet it all goes to pieces every year.
Sorry for ranting. I think the heat has got to me. Going back to bed now.

Sorry to drag you all down but I canβt sleep. The thermometer I have outside on the wall says 22.5 degrees C and thatβs at 02:30am BST. The fan is chucking warm air at me, the cat is moping around complaining because heβs hot too, and to cap it all my eczema has decided to make an unwelcome appearance and I canβt stop bl00dy scratching it. AAARGH! The place is swarming with moths and flies and bugs, and there is a socking great spider up in the corner but I bet he wonβt catch all these creepy crawlies.
Oh sleep, why do you elude me?

Enjoy the weather, drink a cool glass of water. No beer!I do think the farmers, the firemen and the IT’s would rather have some rain. Our gov’t has already begun to warn people about the dangers of this kind of weather.
Belgium’s sun and warm weather will abruptly cease at 1pm on Monday 1st September, especially around Antwerp and Mechelen and Oudenaarde and Oostende…
