Just had a long day, working at home with two sick nippers (oh, and handy telephone tips from the ex on how to do so…. )anyway, once they were settled in bed, dishes cleared away etc, a bit of channel surfing found an episode starting.
I had forgotten how good it was, and how it still works albeit as a costume drama thirty years on. What a fine bit of British TV at it’s best.
Now, get yer trousers on you slaaaaaag, your nicked……

One of my all time favorites. The car chases, the slang and ofcourse the music. I had that as a ring-tone on my mobile for ages. Good to know that the Ford Consul is being restored, though personally I prefer the later Ford Granada. I had one for a year or so..superb car !! Thinking about it ? it was my definite Favorite ! followed closely by Minder. 🙂 Recently watched a couple of the Professionals….seemed a bit corny now 😡 compared to the Sweeney.
[Quote= Music; Regards theme music, only a one-off programme I know, still waiting for the sequel… the tune to the Long Good Friday film is superb !!!! anyone remember it ?? 🙂

The Sweeney.
Changing the subject slightly, when Jack Regan, after a few years, retired into the older Inspector Morse based in Oxford we often saw his red Jag driving around. On one occasion I was asked to stop by the ‘real’ police whilst in the Eastgate area…within a few minutes Morse appeared from a college back-gate trailed by his sidekick, C’mon Lewis Morse shouted. Got into the Jag and drove off…Excellent stuff !!!

Sad to say I was a bit late for The Sweeney…. 😮
I must stress that it was the re-runs in the late ’80s that I caught!
It was still exciting telly then, ‘get your knickers on yer nicked!’

Hmm, thought I recognised Tinker from those photos though he looks much younger than he did in Lovejoy, which my memory says is after Sweeney. Both great series though.
I had a Consul for a couple of years and it was the most comfortable car I’ve ever had. It rusted to nothing very quickly though.

The Sweeney.
What a coincidence ! Many thanks for that BSG-75. Shall have to get my video-player fixed as I’ve got loads of WW2 stuff to see again as well.

I still have an episode on tape though don’t now remember what it was titled as my video player has long-since packed-up. It was a story about one of the top brass coppers who had a secret to hide about his shady past during the Korean/ Vietnam war. How his gang were responsible for the murder of civillians, including children. This bent copper paid some of his old Army pals to nick this damning evidence from a certain location but it went wrong when one of them broke or twisted his ankle and was left behind. One of the gang went to shoot him but was stopped by the leader who said ”Don’t he wont talk” or something like that. Anyone have a clue what i’m talking about…..:)
This was the one I saw the other day that started the thread. It was an “incident” in Malaya, and the brother of the company clerk inherited the enquiry papers and started to blackmail the officers. One was very rich, one a senior officer in the Met, and one had some sort of mercenary/security company that they turned to for help, he ended up blackmailing the others.
Good story line, very original.

A good mate & MOCGB member had one of the cars used in the Sweeney, it was a 1968 Shelby GT500 Convertible.
Sadly my friend died suddenly at the age of 37 & his collection of Shelbys & boss Mustangs have scattered to the four winds.
Oddly he had no idea his Shelby was a Sweeney car when he bought it.

You’re nicked, you’re nicked, oh and err.., …you’re nicked an all!
Must admit as a teenager there was nothing better to come home and watch than a bit of gritty man telly featuring some great cars, and ‘alf naked birds!

The Sweeney was a cracking series, when I did my media course years ago our film editing tutor was one of the editors from the series, he had some great stories. Not sure that it was more expensive to make than The Professionals, but it was more imaginatively produced.
Interesting to see how many ‘new’ actors you can spot in the various episodes aswel.

The Professionals has aged badly by comparison, not sure why, it was a lot less expensive to make it seems (look at different cheap locations every week, Bodie’s jackets being swapped among cast members etc) but I loved it at the time.
