We fight terrorism to make our lives safer, easier, happier.
– long delays at airports due to increased security. Passengers disgruntled with the airport experience. Small boy `patted down` by US security.
– Rockets installed on UK rooftops to protect the Olympic games.
– Airshows (military) no longer allowing on-site parking. Bag searches normal.
and probably a lot more you could think of.
So if we have `won the war on terror` why the above which did not occur 20 years ago?

Went to loads of displays 80’s, 90’s (Abingdon, Boscombe Down, Mildenhall, Farnborough) and never once was searched.

I remember going to the airshow at Finningley and having the car fully searched with mirrors underneath and having to open the boot so nothings changed much.

I don’t think we are winning the `hearts and minds` or `handover a safe country` policies either;

PPP. I doubt whether the Police have the man power to protect all the Olympic venues, I would imagine, rather than take officers off the front line, Private security firms would be “policing” the areas, however one cannot expect them to be as efficient as the Police, so stunts like this are likely to be a success.

We’ve lost, or never had, a lot of them actually. Just a few examples:
No freedom of speech -> Anything deemed “racially offensive” can be arrested for!
No right to not self-incriminate -> Notice of intended prosecution (traffic tickets) you must give the details of the driver, even if the driver is you! If you have an encrypted computer file (or any computer file the police don’t understand!) you must give it to them in a form they do understand. The latter is particularly concerning as it carries a jail term, and just about anything (including deleted data!!!) can be claimed to be “encrypted” and it would be an uphill battle to prove it isnt.
No right to privacy -> Internet monitoring laws upcoming
I understand the “Sun” newspaper, got a JCB driver, who is working on the Stadium, to have a lunchbox that had dummy bomb making gear in it to take it in and out of the Stadium several times a day after his first security check at the start of the day. He was not checked anymore despite going in and out willy nilly.
As I stated in another thread, I stated I.M.O. any attack would be at ground level, not from the air.
Talk about giving terrorists ideas,Jim.

Can’t really fault the police there. To expect them to search everything going in is just plain unreasonable. I’d guess it makes a good story though.

How about them THREAT LEVEL CODES!
Orange, think I’ll stay in doors today.
So stupid.

The Islamic fundimentalist terrorists have achieved one of their main goals, which is to bring down our freedoms. I don’t believe they will ever achieve their main goal of bringing their own brand of extreme religious fascism to the west.
So we are all under scrutiny and our free movement and private communications are being lost. Even freedom of speech has been lost, at least here in the UK. It is now an offence to speak our minds about religion in a public place – political correctness has become the law here.
So I understand why you say the terrorists have won. These religious zealots have certainly brought oppression to the west.

Terrorism is always a problem, especially in foreign countries. I’m glad to hear Bin Laden killed.
