The Oxford, Magister and Tiger Moth were rolled out at Duxford today, 28 Mar 06. Considering the wind I was surprised they didn’t fly away. The group photocall is of the restorers.

The engine isn’t strictly a Typhoon engine (it’s a later variant of Sabre than that), but it and the cockpit are to form part of a display in AirSpace contrasting the Hawker Typhoon with its Eurofighter namesake, in terms of the technology and design that went into them.

Just a thought, on Septics’s third pic with the engine in front of the Typhoon cockpit – are they suggesting something or just teasing us? Not too good on engines so can’t tell if that’s the correct engine, also it’s obviously been moved from Hangar 4 for something
It would be a nice idea if a composite fuselage could be built, wether the IWM has resources to do it is another thing. I have to admit that I did take the shot to see if anyone took the bait. 😀
As far as Typhoon rear fuselage sections go, there are a couple around but I believe their condition is quite poor. Peter Smith in Kent did have one.

Take a look at how small the visible mounting is on the Oxford, the tailplane mounts are even smaller.

Forgot to mention – it’ll also be difficult to just view it as well, from one side of Airspace you’ll have the Canberra, Canuck, Whirlwind and Dove in the way of it (by the way you’ll have a hard job getting a good luck at the Canuck as well, and the Jaguar and Harrier), and on the other side the Lysander, Tiger Moth and Re8!
You’re basing this on a 2D plan; let’s wait and see how visible the suspended aircraft are.

Beautiful, now somewhere gather up all the Master bits and add one of these beautiful aircraft to the collection

Better enjoy the Oxford while you can – in Airspace she’ll be hung up near the centre of the hangar away from any of the walkways (unless they build an overhead one down the middle) and the Vulcan right under it so it’ll be rather difficult to get pics of her when she’s strung up
Makes yer sick, what a shame…..
If Airspace pandered less to the ‘needs’ of the commercial market we might have had a more imaginative display 😡
Anyway, well done to all those envolved, must make a trip soon to see these beauties. Very nice they look too!

That first image of yours looks genuine period in b&w with a little bit of judicious ‘film grain’ effect. 🙂

Where have they put them after today. If they are like the TSR2 straight into Airspace then it may be may until they can be viewed again 🙁

Lovely, especially the Oxford, one of my favourite aeroplanes. And yes, I am really jeleous that Albert has flown in one and I haven’t. Must get to DX before they hang it on the ceiling.

Oops, sorry for some reason I read ‘restorers’ as volunteers, well done to them all anyway they’ve done a grand job of them all, it’s great seeing the aircraft in new schemes or just repainted for Airspace

Wow what beauties, they look fantastic well done to the volunteers!

I enjoyed that actual Oxford exactly 38 years ago 😮 when I flew in her from Staverton in March 1968!
