The Typhoon and Gripen combo.. too much overlap?

I remember when SAAB and BAe promoted a Eurofighter Typhoon and SAAB Gripen combo.. however putting aside the obvious range factor.. it would seem that the two have too much capability overlap to warrant a purchase for both aircraft..

And infact, it seems that the Gripen and Typhoon even went up against each other in several competitions such as the Austrian one..

at the moment it seems that the Gripen seems to have secured more orders outside of the producing countries and has had the lead of being first to begin/finish integrating weapon systems as well (i’m not sure on this but it seems that Gripen may get Meteor first too)..

anyone felt the same way about this?
