The Washington Sniper

It seems the Washington Sniper continues to hold the police at bay while steadily ratcheting up the tension. Latest message states that children are not safe anywhere resulting in chaos in Washington’s schools, some of which have apparently closed.

I was surprised to hear on BBC News 24 today that since 1976 there have been some 500 shootings by snipers in America. Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that some 200 have never been caught.

The question is with the police having witness sightings, messages from the sniper, footprints and ballistic evidence, how much longer will he be able to continue this apparently random killing spree befor he is caught? One would fervently hope that, for those caught up in this nightmare, it is sooner rather than later.

RE: The Washington Sniper

yup looks like he was caught. A disgruntaled ex Vet with his step son. Looks like they will both be up for deth penalty.

Ah yes Garry.. how i just knew that our lokal NRA member for NZ will voice up. Firstly garry i meant for the “barrel fingerprinting” not fingerprintig of owners. Its a suggestion that all guns sold be “fingerprinted” by shooting few slugs and keeping them in Federal Database. because each fireamr makes a unikue slug print, and it would take approximately 5000 rounds to even slightly change the barrels inprint on the gun.. this would be an excelent method of indetifying firearms involved. And it would not matter if firearm is stolen as all weapons bar those in the Deffence forces would be printed… and also like DNA, it doesnt inoly have to indetify,,, it can also exclude the weapons if they are linked to shootings.

RE: The Washington Sniper

It wouldn’t surprise me if Bin Laden’s already thought of that, and who’s to say that this sniper isn’t something to do with Al Quieda???

Sober at last

RE: The Washington Sniper

Would be an ideal scenario for Al Qaida´s next move… have some 40 snipers in various large cities plinking away pedestrians…

RE: The Washington Sniper

I appricate that the events are traumatic for the peoples of the Washington area, but I do not belive the police will catch the sniper unless he wants to be caught.

RE: The Washington Sniper

“If you allow highpower rifles to be sold over the counter just like that… and you refuse to fingerprint the wapons sold “

Unless he leaves behind a rifle at every shooting or is stupid enough to not wear gloves how does having his fingerprints on record help?
How many million hunters would the US police harrass to find the sniper?
And who is to say the gun wasn’t just stolen in the first place?

RE: The Washington Sniper

If you allow highpower rifles to be sold over the counter just like that… and you refuse to fingerprint the wapons sold (a stupidity, those who are not intent on crime have nothing to fear)..well then dont be suprised with 500 shootings as somebody stated. Dont get me worng as a gun owner here in OZ i had to go trohugh hell to get a firearm, ammo, and licence … but the law is there 4 a reason i guess.

RE: The Washington Sniper

its in a very wierd sense funny in a tragedy sort of way.

this one guy with a standard hunting rifle (ie not a sniper) who is holding however many millions in nothern virgina, maryland and the district of columbia hostage.

the shear power of this hunter is amazing as police have got so little to go on

the theories going round and round show how we have no idea

i feel deeply for the ameicans and how this is terrism at its hight

was it not mao or lenin who said “the purpose of terrism is to terrorise”

coming after the antrax, wtc, pentagon, timothy mc veihg, etc you americans are experiencing terrism in it extent like the rest of the world has

hope he is caught soon

It is said that the sniper has demanded $10m or there will be more shootings.

Well actually the note said, $10m or your children are not safe.

Quite sick!!!
