The weirdest song lyrics?

When Blinkbox Music asked 2,000 adults to name the “weirdest” lyrics of all-time, literally every song ever written was eligible.
So how on earth did they decide these were the weirdest lyrics ever?

1. The Killers, “Human”
“Are we human, or are we dancer?”

2. The Beatles, “I Am the Walrus”
“I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, goo goo g’joob.”

3. Michael Jackson, “Earth Song”
“What about elephants? Have we lost their trust?”

4. Lionel Richie, “All Night Long”
“Tom bo li de se de moi ya, yeah jambo jambo.”

5. Carly Rae Jepsen, “Call Me Maybe”
“Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad.”

6. Black Eyed Peas, “Boom Boom Pow”
“Beats so big I’m stepping on leprechauns.”

7. Duran Duran, “The Reflex”
“The reflex is an only child, he’s waiting in the park.”

8. Wham! “Club Tropicana”
“Club Tropicana, drinks are free, fun and sunshine, there’s enough for everyone, all that’s missing is the sea.”

9. Taylor Swift, “Love Story”
“Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter, and my daddy said stay away from Juliet.”

10. Oasis, “Champagne Supernova”
“Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball.”

Ok, having not even heard some of the above, I implore you please to come up with what you believe is the weirdest lyric (from a song, obviously) that you’ve heard.

Not saying it is the best – weirdness is in the eye of the beholder, naturally – but it does contain my favourite lyric (Well, that’s like hypnotising chickens…), but how about this from Lust For Life by Iggy Pop?

Well, I’m just a modern guy
Of course I’ve had it in my ear before
‘Cause of a lust for life…

Had what, exactly?

Almost anything by Little Richard would qualify. After more than 50 years, people are still arguing about they meant or even what they were.

I’m impressed ! How do any of you know what is being sung/howled/chanted/screamed ? Add your own adjective.

To me and the estimable Mrs. Green it is just noise. Some of it pleasant, most of it raucous screeching. I haven’t properly heard the words of any popular song since the days of Matt Munro, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald plus a few others.

MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain

I don’t think that I can take it
‘Cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never have that recipe again, oh noooooo

Frankly “Ooooh no” is about the only bit that makes sense

“I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand – walking through the streets of Soho in the rain” ?

“Beware of the flowers cos I’m sure they’re gonna get you – yeah.” One of many from John Otway

And this one deserves to be quoted in full… from Donovan…

“She came, she came to meet a man, she found an angel
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now

He very wise in the herbal lore’s got young cure now
She came, she came to free the pain with his wild flower

Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now

Fine fine, fine fine acelandine be prepared for her
Tea tea, tea tea to make her free while incense burned

In love pool eyes float feathers after the struggle
The hopes burst and shot joy all through the mind
Sorrow more distant than a star

Multicolor run down over your body
Then the liquid passing all into all
Love is hot, truth is molten

True true, true true the song he sang her while the leaves cooked
Ting ting, ting little bell he rang her, sleepily she looked
He filled, he filled a leather cup, holding her gaze
She took, she took a little sip while this song he sang

Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was my name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was my name now
Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was my name now
