As Shoreham has now been & gone I thought I ought to remind you that the aeromart/aerojumbles season has not yet ended! Now in its 12th year. The Whitwick Aeromart caters for the collector & enthusiast with a wide range of stalls offering everything from aircraft componants, flying clothing & equipment, uniforms, badges, aviation art, posters, models, books, general militaria & wartime Home Front memorabilia. We attract an average of 60 dealers. The event is held in a modern, warm, dry sports hall with good lighting & toilets! There is good onsight catering & licensed bar facilities.
It may be of interest to those who only attend Shoreham or Popham that we do get different dealers up here in the grim north. Why not come & give it a try? Yes, its north of Watford but we do get at least one hour of daylight each day & most of the natives will be down the pit or in the factories so you could almost convince yourselves that its not so bad after all 😉
The next event is on Saturday 11th November 2006 @
The Hermitage Leisure Centre
Silver Street
Whitwick
Leicestershire
Just 5 miles from Junction 22 of the M1 & 5 miles from unction 13 of the M42. Just off the A511 (formerly A50).
It runs from 10am until 2.30pm (early entry available from 8.45am)
Admission is £2.00 @ 10am or £5.00 for the early entry
Parking is free.

just out of interest how did it compare to this years Shoreham? Was it better or about the same?
Shoreham is still a bigger and better supported event, albeit reduced in size from a few years ago.
Dave’s event really deserves better attendanve from both traders and the buying public. I cannot say it too often, but there are traders at Whitwick that you will never see at Shoreham.
The same can be said for Newark’s Aeroboot which is always one of the most enjoyable events of the year, being linked to CockpitFest as it is.
Aeroventure at Doncaster also deserve an honorary mention for hosting the wireless and avionics fair at the end of October – that event also needs better advertising to bring in more folks on both sides of the table top.
Knowing the kinds of stuff you like to collect, I’d say a trip to next year’s Whitwick(s) could be very fruitful.
See you there!

Keep up the good work, David! Sorry for my confusion about the 11th being on Sunday. Must be age or else related to the stress of organising so many aerojumbles over the years!!! Andy Saunders

I have never been to Whittick, just out of interest how did it compare to this years Shoreham? Was it better or about the same?
Interesting to see about the Hastings control column, I managed to pick one up at Brooklands aerojumble earlier this year together with a Beverley control column. Seems to be a few of them knocking around lately.
Glad to see that everyone had a good time at Whittick, long may aerojumbles continue!

The Hastings column was a complete bargain at £105!!! I missed it by 15 seconds!!! Arghhh!
I found that there were less bargains and less buyers, but it was worth my while.
The only thing that really grumped a few was the complete unfriendliness of the door guards!! granted we all knew we were not allowed in until 8am but they were a tad anal about that and not overly friendly to boot when ‘closing’ the door. The door guards are and have always been unfriendly tho’.

I thought it was a good event, if still a bit quiet compared to previous years.
I missed one or two items (see MarkG’s thread for one and I believe the other was a Hastings control column???!!!) but still picked up some interesting stuff.
As we’ve already said, most of the stall holders are from the North or Midlands and would never be seen at Shoreham or Popham.
Lastly, the Halifax throttles are now with R.L. He seemed confident of being able to replicate them but is waiting for the drawings before making a start.
Thanks Alan,
The drawings will be in his posession soon.
Thanks for your kind help.
Cheers
Cees

Interesting….
Hi,
As co-organiser of this event I have to say I was a tad disappointed at the turn-out (again…) We had a reasonable number of dealers, although well below our maximum turn-outs.
I thought the variety of kit & equipment etc was good & people seemed to be having a good time? On a personal note as a dealer I had a very good day selling which would suggest that the folks who do attend are “serious” buyers & actually spend money rather than sightseers. I found it was a moderately good day for buying.
We haven’t had chance to review the figures yet but assuming we didn’t make a catastrophic loss there will be more events as usual next year!
Thanks to all who attended as dealers or buyers – your support is genuinely appreciated.
David

Don’t think I can make it as will be moving some DB 601’s around and cant change my plans I am sorry to say. David…if anyone asks, Shoreham is still scheduled for the last Saturday in March 2007, but not at Shoreham if that makes any sense! We are in discussion with Brooklands Museum. More later….meanwhile, hope Sunday goes well. Andy Saunders

Final Reminder…….WHITWICK IS TOMMORROW…..
Dear All,
At the risk of getting very boring can I just remind you that the last Aerojumble/Aeromart/Aviation Collectors fair of the year is TOMORROW, Sat. 11th Nov. @ Hermitge Leisure Centre, Silver Street, Whitwick, 10am – 2pm or early entry from 8.45am.
Give us your support – don’t let the net (& eBay in particular kill off “face to face” trading……
Your Aeromart needs you! 🙂

Looking forward to it, Dave.
Browsing a stall will always be so much more fun than browsing an internet site – and prices are usually cheaper, too.
Oh, and Cees, don’t forget to remind me about the Halifax throttles – I’ve got a head like Dutch cheese.
Alan,
PM sent. You should eat the cheese, not rub your face in it 😀
Cheers

Lee Enfields a very strong possibilit @ Whitwick
Do the militaria stalls do any de-activated weapons? Always fancied a nice Lee Enfield no 4…
Hi,
I’ve spoken to one of the dealers & he has a very nice, well priced example of a Lee Enfield No.4. I’ve asked hime to take it along on Saturday. There is also another dealer who normally has a few deacs available so you should be able to fill your gap….
Cheers

books – yes…..
Yes, there are at least a couple of book dealers signed up for the show – a regular plus a new one for us. In addition I think you will find that quite a few of the dealers have a few books & paperwork available. I will certainly be taking a few surplus volumes & a bin of wartime leaflets, documents, the odd pilots notes etc……
PS You never know – they may sell garlic bread at the cafe
PPS All you punters – Why not bring the rest of the family & they can have a swim whilst you browse & spend up. That way you have a chauffer to take you home if you have sampled the local brew.
By: sagindragin - 3rd November 2006 at 18:24
if bringing garlic, please make sure you bring plenty of bread  yum yum
sorry must get back to the real reason for this thread,
david, will there be any old books for sale ?

USAAF gear
Good news for collectors of AAF flight gear & 1940s clothing – Jim Clarey has booked up for a pitch. He was going to be working that day but has managed to re-arrange this to attend……
Anyone concerned with the potential to “catch” some hideous airborne northern disease, lack of daylight or friendliness of the locals is advised to come armed with a bell, garlic, antisceptic, torch & simple English phrase book at the very least….

it,s not the black death or the curfew you have to watch out for, it’s the 8 wheeled tipper drivers, we are trainded to take out you southerners :dev2:
By: Arabella-Cox - 3rd November 2006 at 12:38
David – sorry I wont be stalling out but I am going to try to get there despite the Black Death in those parts! The curfew North of Watford may be a problem, though! Andy Saunders

Rumbled
Dear Sagindragin,
Ok you’ve rumbled me – I have no idea which pits the locals will be frequenting as the only part of Whitwick I know is the Hermitage Leisure Centre & I actually live in Derbyshire. When I arrive early to set the tables up for the show its very dark & all the locals I see (very few at that time of the day) look like they are on the way back or to the pits…..
I’m rambling. Its worth a visit & as someone else pointed out – prices can often be substantially cheaper than on the net.
Bookings increased by a few more late bookings today! No doubt more to come.
Cheers
David
