The Woolwich Hurricane

Does anyone have a serial number for this presentation aircraft?

Mark12,

Henry Boot, the author of the book is a good mate of mine, did a lot of research for him at the PRO in the squadron ORBs. I did e-mail him quite recently on the subject of the Woolwich Hurricane, & he had no idea of the serial. Obviously Ray has picked the serial up from somewhere, though I don’t know if Henry will agree with him, I shall have to see what he thinks.

Geoff,

The source of the information was the editor of a new book being written about Presentation Aircraft by Air-Britain.
As it came over the phone I am not sure whether it is ‘No.2’ or ‘number two’.

This link will give you access to RayS.

Mark,

It’s waiting to be collected, or shall I post it to you?

Can you tell me where the info came from, just for the record?

Also why ‘Woolwich No2/Woolwich number two’? Is the exact name open to question, or did it carry both versions of the name?

Don’t suppose there’s a better photo of the Woolwich Hurricane, showing the whole aircraft, or even HW721 with/without the name?

Any idea of the individual code letter carried?

Many thanks

Geoff.

Geoff,

‘Woolwich No. 2′ /’Woolwich Number Two’ – Hurricane HW721.

It is presumed ‘No. 1’ was the Spitfire.

May I reclaim my credibility? 🙂

Mark12,

Many thanks for the info, but R7216 was the Woolwich Spitfire, I’m after the s/n of the Hurricane.
