The wrong day as in I usually visit Duxford on a Friday and today is Thursday. Just after 10.30, Spitfire Mk XVI/TD248 arrived with its owner and later on it disappeared into the ARCo workshops for a couple of hours. John Romain took it for, presumably, a test flight later in the afternoon. Just after TD248 parked up, the Nieuport replica fired up and took off and sneaked back for a pass and a wave from the pilot before heading off to France for the La Ferte-Alais air show. The T.IX was next to take to the air for a nice bit of aerobatics. After eighty minutes the war bird flying was over. The VC.10 was receiving a bit of a wash and brush up and the stripping of Mary Alice continues in Hangar 5. I love the smell of paint stripper in the afternoon.

Pictures are superb – I really enjoy them too. Roobarb seems to have summarised the matter perfectly!
Maybe we need a ‘Duxford Update’ section! 🙂

The one of TD248 looks like it would be a good sample for a bit of HDR tweakery…;)
His dedication to the Sony range of DSLRs seems to be paying off…

I have been thinking the same thing for ages, I absolutely agree with what Wyvernfan says, and I think his very valid query has been completely misunderstood here.
Both Pen Pusher and DCW take fantastic pictures and are kind enough to share them with us to enjoy, but do we need multiples of threads on the place?
DCW has kept his all in one thread which is kept updated, but surely one thread from all the contributors (and there are many more besides DCW & PP)regularly updated would be far tidier for the forum, and easier to find the various posts and pictures made about Dux, other museums and organistaions have seen fit to do this.

PenPushers pics are great and are well worth their own thread.

Wonderful cloudscapes! Bearing in moind the weather, did the Nieuport actually get all th way to France?

I think you miss my point guys. No offence was intended, but personally i would rather see a ‘Duxford thread’.. where all offerings of photos could be located in one area, especially as there is quite often a duplicating of images from different contributors.
On other topics it is always frowned upon to start different threads on the same subject, and they are either integrated together or one is locked.
Anyway enjoy.
Fair point Wyverfan.

Living in Cornwall, these photo-threads are food and drink to me and so please keep them coming Brian et al. Don’t mind where.
Gratefully,
Phil

I concur with the majority, please keep those lovely shots coming.
Especially like that panoramic of the hangar, all that lovely aviation history!

Duxford being the warbird Mecca I enjoy the pics…

yep, I concur too, love seeing Brian’s pix and the others! Especially from here!

Brian’s pictures are always a pleasure to look at, even for those of us not so far away;) Like DCW’s monster sized thread, they give “us inside” a view of what’s going on on the “other” side of the fence and elsewhere on the site. I imagine for those living far away like say “Dazdaman”, they are a continual thrill and make people feel like they are almost there. It must be great for those people living abroad in say NZ, who may be contemplating a trip to the UK, to be able to see these pictures of what they might actually see at DX rather than some more “official” type view that may be months or years out of date. To see something like the move/refurbishment of “Mary Alice” occuring from your desk in another continent must be pretty thrilling. I think the users of this forum are lucky that guys like Brian and Dave bother to spend the time uploading what they feel people would like to see and making their pictures available in the first place. I work at DX every day and I am certainly not bored of their pictures. Keep it up guys! 😎

Never has a ‘wrong’ day looked so right! Thanks Brian.

I never have a problem with Brians photo threads. For those of us too far away to visit, they are a very welcome diversion.

Looks like Tracey Emin has been busy under the rear of Mary Alice……

The only objection you would have is that pen pusher was there whilst we were here at work. Jealousy prevails!
By: DazDaMan - 9th June 2011 at 21:55
Excellent pics, as always, Brian.
Looking at that Nieuport, I would have hated to have flown one of those in combat. It looks…. fragile. Not something solid like an SE5a or even a Camel. I’m sure they were fine combat aircraft, of course, but I just don’t think I’d fancy it!

You don’t have to look at them all. Keep it Brian!
By: Wyvernfan - 9th June 2011 at 21:32
Very nice, but do we really need different photographers starting different threads on basically the same things at Duxford… or are they in competition with one another?
