They dont make 'em as pretty as they used to

A couple of snaps from my collection taken a few years ago. Scanners not too good but I think they’ll come out alright.

Cheers

Nice pics! Isn’t that DC-3 in KLM colours in the first pic, the one owned by The Dutch Dakota Organisation, that crashed into the sea off Holland about 5 years ago ?

Air UK operated JER-SOU and JER-STN and summer charters to UK airport in the summer months. They also operated the same routes from Guernsey.I remember travelling GCI-SOU in 1992 with them.
When KLM UK took over Air UK these services were later dropped.

SAAB

Havent been to CI’s since 96, so dont know about the new terminal. However, there is a cracking vantage point by the tower…if its still there…as you say.

cheers

Geedee,I seem to remember the upstairs viewing area,it was on two levels if I rember rightly, gave fantastic views of the runway, apron and out to sea!I’m not sure if it is still there,I normally go to the airport perimeters if i’m over in Jersey spotting.Could of been closed when the new terminal opened?

RE: They dont make ’em as pretty as they used to

Yup…went to Jersey for hols nine years on the trot and always spent atleast one afternoon up on the viewing platform chilling out.

The duchess is certainly an attractive ol’ lady. Hope they get her fixed up soon.

One year nearly got arrested. Went up to the viewing stage and started to set my camera system up… 35MM SLR with a 600MM telephoto (measuring just under 2.5 feet !)a rifle mount to hold it and a chuffing great tripod. So anyway, finished setting it up and casually looked up at the tower…four worried looking guys all checking me out with bino’s and an obvious security guard climbing the steps !!!. Must have been something to do with the fat that once set up, my camera looks remarkably like a WW1 Lewis Gun!!!.
Got some great close ups of the air traffic that day but couldnt help but chuckle as the security guard found out I wasn’t a terrorist but a spotter !.

Ho hum

cheers

Geedee,I see you’ve been to Jersey!I have a book on the Dutchess.I’ve been reading up about it and it is a fascinating and beautiful aircraft.Sadly it was damaged recently in the bad weather when it got stuck in the mud.Anyway great pictures!
