FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev said on Monday that Basayev, who claimed responsibility for the 2004 Beslan school attack in which 331 people, half of them children, were killed, was planning an attack to coincide with Russia hosting the G8 summit of world leaders this weekend.
CNN’s Matthew Chance said the killing was a massive victory for the security services and a huge blow for the rebel leadership.
So much for the Russian Spec Op’s not knowing what they are doing eh???

U do realise NOT EVERY CHECHEN hates the Russians…just like NOT EVERY IRAQI HATES THE AMERICANS?

The threat didn’t die. There are still millions of people in the region who hate the Russians and they are very much alive. For the Russians its like what having the State of Maine in revolt would be for the U.S.

Wow. Pretty good GWOT. Russia says they are going after something and the threat dies.
We say we are going after Osama, and he is left alive as a boogy man that is always out there in the shadows. Our GWOT funding recipients need Osama alive, not dead, so they continue to get more funding.

kaboom boom!
although now its a battle of credits.. Russkies wanting to say they killed him.. Chechen rebels claiming it was a mere accident

Well at first both sides said it was an accedent with explosives that were in the convoy. but then the russians changed there story saying that special forces attacked the convoy, but i think it may have been an air attack by a mil-24 or su-25 as pieces of rocket have been found in the area.

Well that is good news.
Did the Russian security forces get him or did he die in an accident?
