dark light

They way it should have been left???

I think so. Deffinately the best AIH scheme. This c/s even made the MD-80’s look nice, from the outside. 😀

The good old days eh? 🙂

i’ve been searching for a mate for MAN-CHC, Christchurch NZ, which he’s got now for £750 return with a 2 month layover – excellent value!

Can already be done very easily on Singapore or Emirates and also Malaysian I think.

I had a look at the flights a few weeks ago and both are OK, but obviously require a change of aircraft, which for a route which needs a stop anyway isn’t really a problem.

Yes but capacity isn’t great by comparision to LHR.

Steve.

Well done mate! I obviously didn’t work for Monarch in the 60’s (on account of being born in the 70’s!) but I used to talk to one of our hosties who flew with Monarch from the start and she was telling me about the trips to Australia (and round the world trips) they used to do. If they done these flight regularly again, I’d be first in line at Staff Travel’s door!!

Dean.

I think they did many moons ago.I remember seeing Monarch Brittania back in the sixties

It means “Manx Airlines” in Manx Gaelic.

It isn’t a literal tranlation as there is no Manx word for “Airlines” but the phrase used to adorn every aircraft in the Manx Airlines fleet.

“Isle of Man” is translated as “Ellan Vannin” hence the logo is something like “Skies of Man”.

The cabin crew used to announce a good-bye greeting in Manx at the end of every flight.

Got to ask Mongu – what does Skiaynin Vannin mean? I assume it is Manx?

Crikey, two stops? It must have tied up the aircraft for a long time.

Do you think there is demand for a restart with a longer legged plane like the A330?

I think you could make a killing from MAN, the latent demand is very high and the hassle of trekking down to LHR then paying £800 on BA/Qantas has left a gap in the market in the North, in my opinion. The usual alternative of connecting through AMS or CDG doesn’t apply to Australian flights, because neither KLM nor AF flies there.

Wingflaps – is this the sort of thing Monarch would be interested in? It would add a cool dimension to the scheduled operation.

They flew to SYD for a year (or two?) – charter flights, of course. That was a good few years back now

Oh, the 767 😀 !! I’ve got a book about the MD80 series of aircraft and there is a photo of an Airtours aircraft in this rather ancient looking colour scheme.

As much as I like it, I do prefer the last scheme, the one Preston shows in his avatar.
