Pics of this scheme were posted on UKAR a few months back – it would appear it’s an ARTF finish. It was already peeling off of one revealing the hemp beneath.

Maybe something similar to ASTOR will be used? There are various PR solutions out there derived from civil jets.

hello again Les…I’m the one with the specks on the left! had a good conversation with the chap who did the acceptance on 131 in 1961!!!!and a very nice lady who remembers 4 sqns of Canberras at Marham alone.Quite sad to think that 39 is the last of the line….except for the Indians of course!

JASE
“hi Les hope you had a good day…I was the Cpl doing the see off on 31 ,also glad the damn thing started first time!|”

Yes, cracking day, always have a good recption when we visit you lot. Bit cold and windy though.

Couldn’t see ranks on the start crew due to your hi-vis jackets, but you must be one of those in the pic below.

Didn’t expect the thing not to start did you? After all there was enough old CanMen there to tell you and the jockey why it hadn’t worked and how we used to fix it “in the old days”. In fact, a couple or three of the blokes had handled 131 not only when it was at Wyton with 39 in the 70s but also when it was on 13 Sqn in Malta forty years or so back.

But we had a fine time watching you work – can do that all day! My thanks to you and all the ground crew for the hospitality and good humour.

(By the way, that’s Malcolm of 922 fame chatting to the start crew)

😉

Perhaps the replacement is already flying. See:- http://www.aero-news.net/news/military.cfm?ContentBlockID=5107d830-b4c8-427c-86c5-1dbd188ddbc6&Dynamic=1
Unmanned, stays up longer. Smaller, cheaper sounds like a bean counters dream. 🙁

Oh well in that case merlin we can look foward a PR version of the Typhoon, everyone get ready for the first flight of the Typhoon PR1 in about 2025 🙂
🙂

Now that’s a little unfair, as they’ve already spent two decades on the Typhoon the PR1 variant should only take a further decade. 😮 Maybe Ian was right after all.

Was the blue T4 around? Didn’t see it when I was there on Tuesday.

In the hangar with the riggers working in the back of the bomb bay.

Go there often then?

Only the MoD would repaint a type they’re about to retire…

Knowing the MOD they will soon go and resurface the Runway, taxiways, and revamp the hangers

At Coltishall 🙂

Surely not. These days the RAF only procures a/c that take two decades to produce, are near impossible to maintain and cost the tax payer several arms and legs.

So what will the Her Majesty’s Gov’t use to obtain their ‘information’? Surely not the Tornado GR4.

Maybe thay’re going to wet lease a few ‘SR71’s’ from the CIA.
