After drumming it into the heads of my Grandchildren for years that this sh1te is bad for their health..they come up with this tripe
By: steve rowell - 12th April 2010 at 06:17
That doesn’t magically turn the Big Mac into a healthy option, though.
It just means that the salads are even worse.
Which is actually pretty alarming.
Salads are a very healthy option..it’s the condiments and mayo that you add that ups the ante 😮

Ah, hah! I think you’re on to something there…..but will they break cover?:diablo:

A shot in the dark chaps…
A tenuous link I know but could it be that we’ve inadvertently found what the DOOMSTERS who post on the 558 thread all do for a living?
-Government food advisers/experts!

Uhh…People who knew him…dined with him?
Albert Speer, for instance, mentioned Hitler’s enjoyment of non-vegetarian foods like Bavarian sausages, ham, liver, and game.
I think we can safely assume that Speer shared the occasional bag of cheese and onion with his mate Adolf.
Also it is a matter of historical record that Hitler’s regime banned German vegetarian associations. Hardly the act of an authoritarian dictatorship led by a committed veggie, is it?
The rest of your posting is a bit of a rant, and we’re straying badly off-topic.
If the OP had wanted to talk about Hitler, they would have mentioned him in their posting.
Now, it’s breakfast time and there are some kippers in the fridge with my name on them. 🙂

J Boyle – Its not an insult. Godwin is a rule that says any debate on an internet forum will eventually result in some one/thing being compared to Hitler/Nazis
This is worth a watch.

As for the fast food, eat what you want, why worry abour the food when you could be run over in the car park on the way out.

I invite you to consider the meaning of the phrase “contemporary documentary sources”.
Uhh…People who knew him…dined with him?
Sure they were Nazis but I’m sure they would not lie about that.:D I’m not sure whyt they would lie.
Did they think 65 years ago that if they made him a vegetarian, the world would forget about the holocaust and say about him, “Yes, he was a bad man with the Jews, but he ate properly”?
I’m sure Linda McCartney would have been impressed.
And as I said in the earlier post…if you do a google search on the topic, all the deniers are vegetarians who never met Hitler.
Who would you believe?
And Wikipedia? Please!
Is that really the best you can come up with, trying to win points by playing on popular prejudices by discrediting the source?
Why not believe them? They have some stuff right. It says the Allies won WWII, and there are articles that quote respected historians…who you’d probably agree with and believe.
If the piece is well researched and annotated, it’s a reliable as anything else out there.
How do you know whatever source you have or believe is any better?
At the end of the day, us readers of history only have the words of others to go by.
The story of Hilter’s eating habits have been around for years…
Do I know for sure, No, never met the man.
It may be an urban legend, but the anti-veggie story seems to be offered by people with a vested interest in vegitarianism.
As with all things, You can believe what you want.
I’m sure your wife will be impressed with your defense of her diet.:D
You might note Hitler is also said to have been a non-drinker and non-smoker, two things I’ve previously confessed to (re-read my first post).
Somehow, I don’t feel threatened by the fact Hitler shared my views on those health issues.
Why are some people agast that they might share his dining preferences?
I’m calling “Godwin” on you, by the way. :p
And what insult might that be?
BTW: You seem to be taking this way too seriously…didn’t you notice my occasional 😀 ?

There seems to be some debate (about Hitler, not your wife), perhaps some revisionist history fostered by modern vegetarians who don’t want to be associated with him?

No. Next question?
It certainly looks like it sometime.:D
My wife is a vegetarian, but Hitler wasn’t.

At any rate, there is a well researched an article on Wikipedia….with contemporary accounts of his dining tastes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler’s_vegetarianism
BTW: When he was quotes as saying he wanted to swallow Turkey, he was referring to the country.
But he was often in a foul mood.

Isn’t that contrary to UK and EU policies?😀
No. Next question?
PS. Remind your smug vegetarian friends that Hitler was a vegetarian.
My wife is a vegetarian, but Hitler wasn’t.
He was rather partial to duck, in fact, and contemporary documentary sources such as diary entries from his inner circle describe him eating ham, sausages, turtle soup, caviar, etc etc.

I just want to be left to get on with my life, within reason, and take the consequences for my own actions.
Isn’t that contrary to UK and EU policies?😀
We have that idiot Jamie Oliver over here preaching the same stuff to us.
Yes, use common sense…hey, I don’t smoke, drink or use butter.
I watch red meats, avoid fried foods.
I haven’t had fish & chips since my last visit to the UK.
Fried chicken…what’s that?
Our beef is raised in my back pasture..with happy, healthy (until the fall ) free-range cattle. We get our eggs from the dentist down the road who has hens. Some winters, or pasture-sharing neighbor has pigs so we get a half for fresh bacon and ham.
But if you take this stuff too seriously, you’ll go nuts.
In the words of the Lizard King…No one gets out of here alive.
PS. Remind your smug vegetarian friends that Hitler was a vegetarian.

I gave up eating this sort of stuff after one of those fish things had me talking to God on the big white telephone for three and a half out of the four days we had in Sydney. It certainly seems to be addictive though. There are times when only a cheeseburger will do,I find.
Daughter can’t survive without pizza, but I suppose that’s bad for you too.
By: Blue_2 - 9th April 2010 at 16:05
I do- damn you in your little butty van, letting the bacon smell drift into my cab to tempt me! Normally I can resist actually, but this morning I was weak… 😀
By: Grey Area - 9th April 2010 at 15:59
Since I don’t drive, that’s academic.
Now, Sunday mornings without bacon butties (smoked back bacon, ruthlessly trimmed of fat) are an abomination. 😎
By: Blue_2 - 9th April 2010 at 15:58
Or the smell of bacon wafting alluringly from a roadside snack bar… 😀
By: Grey Area - 9th April 2010 at 15:57
Whenever I can manage it, but travelling a lot with work does get in the way somewhat.
There’s something about a hotel hot breakfast buffet. 🙂
I tend to avoid McDonalds and their ilk like the plague, though.

But therein lies the rub. The information is often contradictory and incomplete. I am not suggesting that no information is better than some information, but I think that, in their eagerness to rush out as much detail as possible, there is not sufficient analysis and consideration of all the facts before publication. Added to which the conclusions of what is bad and what is good is continually being amended leading to greater public confusion.
Are you a “five-a-day” man, GA?;)
By: Grey Area - 9th April 2010 at 15:26
That’s fair enough, Joey.
But surely people should be given the information they need to make informed decisions?
Whether they take any notice or not is up to them, of course.

The less we listen to the food busybodies the better – we might live longer we might not. So what? I just want to be left to get on with my life, within reason, and take the consequences for my own actions.

PANIC! DON’T EAT ANYTHING AT ALL BECAUSE IT’LL KILL YOU DEAD!
If you were to believe everything you read anyway… 😀

Tough, isn’t it? A few weels ago after analysis of prepared salads in the main high street retailers they were found to have far more salt than a Big Mac!:diablo:
That doesn’t magically turn the Big Mac into a healthy option, though.
It just means that the salads are even worse.
