Lawn chair? No way. The thing moves when you add pressure to the stick. Also, when you reach out and touch the cockpit in VR, your hand touch the cockpit at the same time outside VR. It also adds to the first and important sensation of fitting yourself into a Spitfire cockpit before you pull the VR on you.

I tried it last weekend, and I was dizzy two hours afterwards. The thing is brilliant.

I had a VR flight in a Soyuz last month simulating descending from the Space Station to earth. When it ended you realised you were sitting in a swivel chair. A better situation would have been a capsule mock up. However it wouldn’t have taken the other people in the VR set up.

GateGuards built for Warner Bros a VR Spitfire Simulator to promote ‘Dunkirk’ in the States. I agree with the above post, but the internals matched the simulator model and therefore added to the experience of the budding pilot. They sat in a Spitfire and then when they placed the helmet on their head they were sat in the same aeroplane.

That looks fun, but why bother mocking up a cockpit if the user is wearing a full VR goggles setup? Surely a lawn chair would do the job!
