No you didn’t criticise them, probably because your not bothered, well I am, I want to see this Country celebrate these events, I can just see the little smile on your face when they wheeled it out 🙂 as for your the last comment, it’s pathetic.

We agree on one point, I’d like these events to be remembered but I happen to think the RAF do their bit pretty well already within the resources they have.

I’m not too fussed either way about the Typhoon. I think the enthusiasts will benefit mostly from the exercise and they already know about the battle. It’s not going to open any more minds beyond the airshows it appears at. Depends what the purpose of the scheme is – if it’s the RAF making a tribute then they’ve succeeded. If it’s about engaging new people with the history of the battle then it doesn’t really do all that much. Maybe a bit of TV and newspaper coverage would spread the message.

Either way, congratulations to them and I hope it brings pleasure and pause for thought to those who see it.

As for you Bruggen, maybe wait and see next time?

Best

That’s kind of the point isn’t it? You didn’t know so why have a go?

And no, I didn’t know but I didn’t criticise them for not doing something they were actually doing.

Let us know who else should be ashamed of themselves next. Perhaps the navy for not painting their new ships up as HMS Victory or the army for not dressing their soldiers in bright red tunics. 🙂 I’m outraged. How dare they!

🙂

NICE:eagerness: now if they could do us the honour of bringing the Typhoon over here for the Hamilton show, for some nice formation PICS with the CF-18.
Then we would have two “Tiffies”

Rumour has it that there is currently a Tyhoon in the paint shop at RAF Coningsby right now being painted in BoB camouflage of 249 Squadron!

So why are you all swooning over the Can/jet then if it’s not that important, obviously it’s a waste of money. So Seriously I would.

Whilst I applaud the sentiment behind this scheme and am glad that it might raise awareness and give pleasure I’d hate to give you the impression that I’d drool over this! Personally I think it looks dreadful aesthetically. The images on the tail look like those spray painted backdrops on fairground rides but hey, I’m one voice and others will like it so best of luck to them for a good and safe display season.

23 DFCs in the past decade suggests the RAF’s front line is now at Odiham – perhaps there’ll be a special Chinook in a BoB scheme….after all, Nicolson VC was a former CO of 27 Sqn…:dev2:

At least wait until the RAF unveil their commemorative scheme before you start knocking it.

[QUOTE=Evalu8ter;2217073]Bruggen,
Because it’s pretty, and different. I like it.

The RAF has a number of aircraft in ‘Sqn 100yrs’ schemes with more to come, a peerless national heritage flight of airworthy aircraft and has painted Hawks/Tucanos in faux 1940s schemes (shame that the latter was well after I flew them, the black ones were a novelty then!).

Your complaint sounds a bit like “oh great, another Pitts/F16/Tornado display

Simple question will the RAF have a Front line jet with a full painted scheme to commemorate the Battle of Britain this year, yes or no? and Mike J I hope your going to reveal some RAF kick Ass paint job that will make Us proud. 🙂

Sorry, who has decreed that there is no BoB anniversary special scheme Typhoon for this year? A lot of conclusions being jumped to here.

Your complaint sounds a bit like “oh great, another Pitts/F16/Tornado display – where’s the variety” from a mid-80s airshow……

We’re still incredibly lucky that the RAF takes its heritage so seriously in these challenging times. Believe it or not to paint an aircraft in a new paintscheme is hard work; it requires an amendment to the Release to Service to ensure that the paint/colour doesn’t affect things like thermal tolerances, and the RAF is only 30k people now, which much of the Depth engineering contracted out to Industry – as such there’s not a pool of fitters in a paintshop with nothing to do. You’ve also, of course, have to justify the cost to the taxpayer…..sad but true.

No it’s a waste of money. The RAF has the BBMF and doesn’t need to paint fast jets in spurious colour schemes when several spits and a couple of hurricanes already fly in memorial.

If they do want to spend several thousand pounds is rather it went to the benevolent fund and help a veteran who needs help rather than keeping a handful of spotters happy at air shows.

So yes, seriously I wouldn’t
