Well all very early tommorow morning we head up to MAN for our flight to Banjul with TCX in a B757-200. What I was asking was whether anyone here has ever travelled with TCX and more preferably their B752s, from what I’ve read I’m online reviews they are either OK or below average.
Well obviously I can only make my own opinions when I actually fly with them, also if anyone has ever been to the Gambia/Banjul and would care to tell me what they think of it would be great too! 😀

Been to Gambia numerous times (fantastic holiday destination – people are great) from Manchester and Gatwick and flown Thomas Cook numerous times from both above and Newcastle, cramped seats but service good. Last time was Nov 05 flew to PFO.

Flew on Tommy Cook in August 2004 from Toronto to Manchester on one of
the reconfigured 757-200’s (G-FCLK infact). Flight time was pretty quick, being only 5hrs 55mins, couldnt tell you what it was like as I was asleep for most of it as it was an overnight flight. Brother woke me up as we were over Ireland lol 😀 . Seats were lovely and comfy though, seemed a pretty nice flight too 🙂
Cheers,
Sam

Yes true, but I have read trip reports on other certain sites where even on a flight to Spain someone recieved on of those aircraft. It may be the luck of the draw but then again none of them may be configured like that anymore.

They make a big song and dance about it if you were to get one of the reconfigured 752’s, so you would know about it by now. Thet even highlight the specific flights on the reconfigured 752s in the brochures

Maybe someone could help me with this question? I know TCX did reconfigure some of their 752s for the flights to Toronto with 187 seats as opposed to 235, are these aircraft still circulating or have they all been configured back to the standard seating.

New terminal has been open for a few years now.
Standard West African rules apply, ie don’t use your credit card, don’t drink the water (have ice in your drinks), don’t trusy ANYONE, etc, etc.
Totally agree
I went on a day charter from Gran Canaria on an Hispania 733 some years ago, would never return 🙁

Well thats the new terminal building I was on about. It was still been built at the time. Before that New one opened it was a tin shed. Belive you me!
Oh I do believe you mate! 😀

Wow! That terminal looks amazing – almost temple like…

Well thanks for the interesting replies so far, as far as Banjul and the Gambia goes we are prepared in terms of what to expect and what’s needed. AFAIK the new terminal building is open at BJL.
It’s one of those countries which is beyond the usual tourist area’s…..
EDIT: With regard to the Terminal it doesn’t look like a tin shed to me….

Yes, I have! 😉
Banjul is ok. Which Hotel are you in? Get ready to be seriously hassled by the locals if you go outside the complex and take some mossie spray!

Hi
Your in for a culture shook when you arrive in banjul. (Thats if the new terminal buliding is’nt open yet.) Because when a mate of my went he showed me pictures off passengers picking there luggage up from a 50 year old Van. Not the normal way and the coach to the hotel have no air conditioning. The buses are about 20/30 years old.
On the way home it got even better. When you check-in you have to put your luggage onto the back of the Baggage truck. Then open it up because they are no X-Ray machines. (So don’t put any pad looks on your bags) Then the departure lounge is more like a cattle shed. Your outside with only a tin roof covering you. Good for the spotter though. Get stood on the brick-wall in this cattle shed and you can watch an approaching aircraft from about 15 mile out.
By the way there is not duty free shops or anything like that. Only Gambian solders watching you with rifles all the time.
Anyway I hope you have a good holiday mate. It’s bloody good down there. As I have been told.
PS. Watch out for the Black-outs. Power goes off at least 2/3 times a day. Also don’t wonder off the Hotel complex without one of the local tour guides. As you’ll get people coming up to you asking for Money and or even trying to mug you ok.

I flew Thomas Cook back in 2003, AGP-LBA on a 757-300, and I thought they were fine. Just your average charter really, pretty poor legroom, good cabin staff, and very clean aircraft.
Enjoy your holiday!
