Thomas Cook To Fly to new deserted island

Thomas Cook are starting Fortnightly flights to Cayo Santa Maria in cuba. The island has only two hotels, both of which are compact and hold less than 200 people, at this time, the hotels get around 50 vistors per month, thomas cook plans to triple this by next year.

The airport needs modernisaton however and the work is due for completion very soon. The flight is though to be running from Manchester however Gatwick is also a possibility.

All this after two years ago Thomas Cook announced it was the first tour operator to operate its own flights and holidays to the deserted caribean island of Cayo Coco of the coast of cuba.

it is only the British ones who cram 9 abreast into their A330s and 8 abreast into a 767!

This is probably because other European punters won’t put up with being treated like cattle.

Whereas we Brits with our “oooh, don’t make a fuss” attitude will continue to lose out every time.

Mugs, ain’t we? 😡

I would recommend not going at all! Parts of the Caribbean are like some of the high-rise resorts of Spain, only not as much fun.

It cost my partner a huge amount of money and we could have had a couple of holidays to Egypt or the Canaries for the same price and stayed in comfort. As I said before and to everyone who would listen to me when I got back “never again”

Re the comments TCX, I have no doubt that Thomas Cook Belgium and Condor offer superior comfort and service. This has always been the case with European charter carriers, it is only the British ones who cram 9 abreast into their A330s and 8 abreast into a 767!

I assume they’re going to build more hotels, or else TCX 330s are going to be operating almost half empty!

And the moral of the lesson is:

If you want comfort or quality, don’t bother with a charter airline or a package deal!

9 abreast on an A330 is farcical. What next…7 abreast on a 737?!

PS – it isn’t only the charters. Emirates fly 3-4-3 on their 777s 😮

I think the talk of holidays and money is becoming annoying.

Regardless of whether you fly ‘Cattle Class’ or the slightly better ‘Cattle Class Plus’ on a charter airline, you’re going on holiday and that’s that.

Even if I had the option to fly in a charter airline’s equivalent of First Class, I wouldn’t bother with it. Having already been ripped for some shoddy package holiday, I don’t want to have to fork out £250 or more to be as comfortable as I would be with what I call ‘real airline’.

The thought of no legroom, no width to your seat and charges for inflight meals, drinks and entetainment just does not appeal!

Anyone that can afford a package holiday can also afford a holiday where you fly with a proper airline, and even have quite a bit of money leftover! For example, I am paying just £736 for a 29-night holiday at a 4* Hotel in Thailand in March next Spring. I’m going to be flying with Phuket Air, so not too great, but to travel with Thai earlier this year cost just an extra £50 or something. Of course, we’ve still booked through Kuoni, but unlike other companies, we are getting real value for money! I must also point out that Kuoni has been the winner of the best long-haul tour operator for the past 21 consecutive years.

To be honest, I dread to think what a package holiday with the likes of MyTravel, Thomas Cook or Thomson would cost us. Two weeks of spring sunshine would have cost more than £750 and the flight to Phuket would last 13 hours, we’d be ripped off by the airline, paying 60p for a 150ml can of Coca Cola, £3 for a set of headphones and a very heavy supplement for a tasteless, puny meal.

By the time you’ve whacked your charter airline upgrade fee onto the cost of your holiday, you’re looking at paying twice as much than a company like Kuoni. Really, the only difference with ‘Cattle Class Plus’ is that you are getting the service that an airline like Virgin Atlantic, Thai Airways, British Airways etc would offer in their economy class anyway!

The island can’t be all that deserted if there’s an airport and loads of hotels, can it?

Thomas Cook is more than TCX, there is also Thomas Cook Belgium and Thomas Cook/Condor. Don’t say anything wrong about them as long as you didn’t flew them. ThomasCook Belgium offer scheduled (not charter) flights with a high class of service. They operate all A320’s. Holiday airlines haven’t, aren’t and will never offer a service equal to a flag carrier. I flew on a Boeing 767-300ER a few days ago of Thomas Cook operated by Condor, and couldn’t complain about it.
Next time, please say Thomas Cook UK before judging on other airlines you’ve never flew on.

i agree with “danairboy” there aint nothing to do at cayo coco.

“lbarules”

lets get one thing straigh i am not rich, second if people dont want to pay them why do they expect higher service levels.

Because people pay alot of money for a long flight, you want to be comfortable.

Oh stop moaning for gods sake DanAir. Most long haul charter flights have two meals, what do you want, 10 5 course gourmet meals?

I also found Thomas Cook an absolutely excellent airline.

Cayo coco was boring in the extreme. Thomas Cook completly misrepresent it in their brochure, selling it as a dream destination with luxurious accommodation.

The all-inclusive 4 star hotel was very poor, much worse than a bog-standard 3 star hotel in the Canaries! And that flight with only one hot meal and a cold breakfast.

Thomas Cook used to stand for quality holidays and now they have moved downmarket with their packages and awful airline. Surely anyone who has had a bad Thomas Cook holiday will be put off from booking another tour ops holidays at a Thomas Cook travel agent, so they will lose business all round!

Well lets put it this way. Alot of people save their holidays for months and months and just about get together the money they need. Why the hell should they have to fork out £100s of pounds more to feel comfortable on a long haul flight?

Not everyone is as rich as you are 😡

well lets put it this way

they dont book the premium cabin, they always come home and complain about the seat pitch, dont complain if you dont pay out the money.
