Interesting news stemming from the recent planning issue?

Thomsonfly have spent the year cutting out flights from their regional airports.
At Bournemouth Airport, they used to operate to 7 destinations basing 2 737-300s here, however now it has been cut down to only flights to Palma and Faro, and will use Bournemouth for Charter flights only. I find it terrible, as it was a good service at a cheap price, and proved to be popular. I really do not understand it, but I guess thats business these days…

This is a shame for CVT, but probably inevitable given the planning decision.
Do you think there was scope to survive in the shadow or Birmingham and East Midlands airports?
Will the airport likely concentrate on cargo and other private movements now, or keep chasing the airlines for passenger flights?

It’s not only the planning issue although that has to be an important if not the most important factor. However, Central News tonight claimed that Thomson had flown 25,000 fewer passengers from Coventry this summer than last. That has to have influenced the decision.
Quite possibly another factor is that even had they won the right to build a new terminal, those opposed to the expansion of the airport would have continued to campaign against any increase in flights operating from CVT. Wizz pulled out as well last month so according to Central there are now no passenger flights operating out of CVT. (With the obvious exception of any flights operated by AACF).
Coventry was a shambolic airport as far as passenger flights were concerned. Facilities consisted of a departures hall constructed from portacabins and arrivals was, to all attempts and purposes, a green metal shed. On site parking was at best a joke and at worst an absolute nightmare. Having said all that the flights were cheap and convenient as long as you didn’t expect the airport itself to compete with the likes of BHX and MAN.

I think it has an awful lot to do with the planning issue!
