Thomsonfly 737 – 800 @ DSA

Thomsonfly (Britannia Airways) have brought in from Britannia AB a 737 – 800 G-CDZN to operate its charter flights out of DSA. Yet up to date this aircraft has been parked on the apron and hasn’t performed a single flight. All charter flights are being operated by a Hola Airlines 757 – 200 EC-ISY. Can anyone shed any light on why the 737 is grounded (i’ve heard that ther aren’t any cockpit crew available!), and when it will start to be used, as EC-ISY’s lease runs out 25th May, 2005.

Got the answer:-

The 738 couldn’t be used straightaway due to having to have a “C” check before coming on the UK register. This took longer to get it ready than expected, Thomsonfly therefore had charter the Hola 757 for a month. 738 is now ready and being used on loco flights until nextweek, when 738 will take over charter duties.

The story behind it is,

There is a shortfall in the number of B737-300’s to operate Low Cost flights.

Therefore the B737-800 is standing in for those flights with the shortfall and cannot operate the charter flights due to the times the charters take off usually early morning or late at night.

I believe G-CDZN is being operated by Thomsonfly on the loco side of things, EC-ISY is looking after the charters for now

They’re also short of a B737-300 at DSA and have been using various Thomsonfly B757s on loco flights.
