Why are these been parted out at such a young age.

Ren, BA are dropping Open Skies!

Are they??

My understanding is that Openskies has/will transfer to a French AOC and continue with the four a/c they currently have. This being the two transfered from mainline and the two acquired when they took over L’Avion (Elysair) However, all previously proposed expansion plans have been shelved. As a result, the remaining B757’s with BA mainline are for disposal, and in fact do now have a potential undisclosed new owner awaiting following a letter of intent to purchase.

They’re last Centuries technology…if they’re not snapped up for conversion they’ll either end up parked in the desert or end up as Soda cans

Why have they been retiring their models, then?

V old ie 1983 aircraft MONB,MONC,MOND thus far for Fed Ex (MONC part out and scrap) along with MOND the others will be converted into freighters.Bearing in mind Fed Ex want 90 757’s to replace 727’s.

G-MONB awating her flight to the US for conversion…………….

It’s hard to believe some 762’s are nearly 27 years old

Britannia/Thomson of course being the first operator of the 762 this side of the pond. Come to think of it, there must be a few 757’s still in operation of a similar vintage. The original BA fleet from 1983, some of which are flying with DHL nowadays.

The 767-200 is not an economical aircraft these days you are better of with a 757, 767-300, A321 or A330. Same goes for the A310.

I think it’s not so much the age but the number of cycles the airframe has endured!!!

Indeed. For the past few years TOM has been using the 762s mostly on flights to Europe so the cycles will have been mounting up.

Pass them to Fedex, JET2 or another airline, don’t for gods sake scrap them.

Airframes were worn out Tommy. TOM used them heavily during there service. FEDEX at the moment are only after second hand 757s to replace the 727.

Rumours were rife last year and the year before that Jet2 were after 767’s but from what i can tell there looking for more 757s.

Tommy,

They are machines, not living beings.

Machines wear out.

When they do wear out, machines are scrapped and some parts and materials are re-cycled.

This has been the case since Mankind first started to make machines.

That can only work if the airlines in question want them, which I doubt with the two you mentioned….

Besides, maybe they’re worth more as spare parts?

BYAA and AB are nearly 18 years old – Plus, Thomson now have the FCA 767s.
