Thorpe Camp

for those of you on the ‘guided tour’ prior to the BBMF visit the other week, I popped in to Thorpe Camp today as it wasnt open when we passed.. The centre is based in buildings that were formerly part of #1 communal site for RAF Woodhall Spa. Only open on Sundays at the moment with the addition of Weds during July and August.. worthwhile way to spend an hour, especially with the very resonable £2 entry fee..
1) thats what you call a Vulcan model..
2) part of the deck from The Tirpitz
3) inside the mock-up Lamcaster used for the BBC prog. Night Flight
4)Argus being restored for static display
5) RAF Woodhall Spa was a Bloodhound Missile location post-war.
6) Remains of more Airmans/SNCOs accomadation… this is what the current site looked like prior to the work by the volunteers.

Neil.

And don’t forget Bank holidays and Saturdays! 12-5pm, Blenhiem Bomber lecture in the old gym on 20th April by the director of Bristol Blenhiem (Duxford) Ltd.

Whilst you are in the area, there is also the Cranwell Aviation Heratige Museum, Wickenby control tower museum, and Scampton tours by appointment, as well as East Kirkby, BBMF and Newark Museum not a million miles away…………..

Thanks for that Neil – I’ve missed seeing this museum twice this winter (due to it being open only Easter to Autumn).

Hopefully I’ll manage to get there this summer.

Andrew
