Those Texas Oscars

Got these images today from Oscar Duck who asked me to post them

Dan

“The Oscar made it’s first taxi test this afternoon. The FAA inspection
will be tomorrow, and to fly on Monday next week, most probably.”

Oscar, JAN 11th

Today, JAN.11th the Texas Airplane Factory rolled out the Oscar… After a weight and balance and preflight it was time to start it up… Fire bottles and cameras at the ready the engine cranked over and started right up… After warming up and checking systems the chocks were pulled and the plane moved and stopped on it’s on… Taxi and brake checks were carried out on the ramp near the Factory then the plane was shut down and towed back into the hangar for post-flight inspections and servicing…. Congratulations to the TAF crew .. !!!

Anyway, I’m crazy, I’m buying an A-26 to add to the fleet…used to own one 20 years ago [briefly]..

Just wondering, which 26 was that?

Another great effort from all concerned. Look forward to see them flying.

Let the “armchair” experts go fund/restore/build/paint/fly/etc etc their own.

Don

According to one of the team restoring the D-13, no evidence of it being reworked from an A-7 was discovered. In any case the remanufacturing of older airframes was often undertaken by the Germans, with both 109s and 190s, so definitely ‘original’ to the Luftwaffe 1939-45.

Fuel for the “is it original?” fire …
I found when researching Doug Champlins FW190 D-13 (see thread dated yesterday) that more than a few Focke-Wulf 190 D series aircraft were remanufactured A-7 airframes – some sources say this was the case with his aircraft. Remanufactured aircraft were allocated new werk numbers and reissued for operational use. Were they not original aircraft?

Texas Oscars

Thanks for the support .. Herb , George and the Texas Airplane Factory team deserve the praise… I was honored and trusted to help out… I will hope to continue when the plane is back on it’s own 2 /3 legs…

270, in that case, good job saving the plane from running away from you and we look forward to seeing it up and about soon. And I still say those gear look frail and spindly, but hopefully once the tailwheel is fixed they’ll do the job they were designed for and keep the plane off the ground!
