I mistakenly put this on Historic yesterday…thought it may be more relevant here. On Sunday I spent a very enjoyable day at Landivisau’s ‘Porte Ouverte’ along with several thousand other people at one of the best airshows I have been for a long time. An extensive and truly international static display which included all of the Tiger Meet participants and a lot of vintage and modern aircraft. There was a six hour + flying display which comenced with 2.5 hours of vintage and light aerobatic flying including P-40, P-51, Skyraider, Zero, Staggerwing, 3XTB30 Epsilons of the Armée de l’Air, NA-68, Texan, MS-760 and others. This was followed by 3.5 plus hours of modern air force flying which included a four ship Belgian Air Force F-16 formation demo, a spectacular two ship swiss F-18 display, the dutch F-16, Czech Grippen and MI-24, Spanish Mirage F1, Saab 105, a very good display from the based units at Landi (Rafales and Super Etendards) and the day closed with a flypast by all the specially painted Tiger Meet aircraft. There were other treats too many to mention…….and not a bouncy castle in sight!!
The cost of this extravaganza: parking, nil, park and ride nil, entry nil!
What a gesture! When all is said and done it is the taxes that pay for the armed services and the French have the novel idea that perhaps they could give something back…..there’s a thought.
