Tiger Moth at Hornet Aviation Sherburn c'82

Hi, please be kind to the newbie;)

I worked on a Tiger around ’81-’82 at Hornet at Sherburn. I did most of the stitching on the wings and my nose ended up as hard as a stick, Irish Linin is like sandpaper!

Due to my memory I can’t remember which Tiger it was, does anyone have any idea on which Moth it was and what became of it?

Thanks Dave.

Sorry to ask again.

Can anyone shed light on G-ANON history around ’78-’81, I know who the owner at the time and I think he has passed away. Did she have an accident around this time?
Or was it a major check/rebuild that needed doing? I was working at Hornet Aviation at Sherburn upon Elmet at the time.
At the time it was just another job to do, it’s just recently I have wondered which Tiger I was working on.

Or does anyone have a website I can search the history of an a/c or ideally a registation? I have tried on my friend Google but it confused me even more. Thanks.

Dave.

I’m blind as a bat now, but then it was how I was shown how to do it. ‘look through the hole for the needle coming towards you’. Surprised I didn’t get one in the eye!

Were you perhaps troubled by extreme short-sightedness ?

I have done a bit more searching and I suspect it was G-ANON. It was owned by a Mr Mercer at the time who lived just down the road from Sherburn, so that fits and it’s still based at Sherburn.
But I can’t find any record of an accident, even AAIB doesn’t show anything.
Nothing on the Moth Club either. Can anyone fill in the blanks please?

Thanks chaps,

I left before the Moth was completed so I don’t know the colour scheme.

Thanks again Dave.

Been scouring through some photos but with no success. However I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a photo on the internet taken in the 80s at Sherburn of a Tiger Moth beside an Mg (?) sportscar. An advertising shot for something or other. The Tiger involved was DF155 / G-ANFV. I don’t know if Hornet had a hand in restoring the aircraft after it left Strathallan and before it ended up at Shempston in Morayshire. If it is that Tiger then sadly it was badly wrecked last August.

DF155 wore an RAF all-yellow scheme if that’s any help.

Hi Dave

What a coincidence this one was restored to flying condition around the same time at Tarrant Rushton Dorset early 1980’s.
