The thread about the Assault Glider Trust’s Horsa has prompted me to start a thread about the Tiger Moth EM840 that the AGT restored. (https://www.assaultglidertrust.co.uk/tiger_gallery/) Following the loss of the AGT’s workshop space at RAF Shawbury the aircraft passed to the Historic Army Aircraft Flight at Middle Wallop where it was put into store awaiting hangar space and manpower.
The aircraft has now been taken out of store as a winter project for members of the engineering team when they don’t have work to do on the HAAF’s fleet of flyers. The work carried out so far has been a simple reassembly and last week it was the turn of the main planes to be refitted, as can be seen in the photos.
She currently remains without the engine fitted (which was displayed as a standalone exhibit by the AGT) and the HAAF engineering team are debating the possibility of overhauling the engine and getting it running using some of the engine spares from the HAAF’s Chipmunk and Skeeter. Even if this happens the aircraft will remain a non-flyer and there are moves to try and convince the neighbouring Army Flying Museum to find enough space to put EM840 on public display.
