Robin Whitby restored ‘FL many years ago, but she’s still going strong, now in group ownership. Robin’s latest rebuild is a Beagle Terrier, completed last year ..:)

G-ANFL TIGER MOTH
🙂
Please put me out of my misery. Where was she stored from 1965 to 1986?
Don’t worry about the grammar etc – we all have our different skills. I have no chance of tuning a Griffon and could probably just about nail together a single cylinder 2 stroke but it would take me a long time.
Hi it was stored from 1965 to 1/3/1967 at boxted , bought by Robin, Denis, Raulph Whitby the present owners, then registered on25/9/1984 , crashed due to wind shear close to ground coming into land at lt snoring on4 july 1998 sustained damage to landing gear and prop ..Changed owners to Robin Paul Whitby on 27/8 /1999, caa runs out this year Percy hatfielf is buried ic measea road cemetry Colchester, grave no cc 253 Allso they did a write up on him in Fly past mAY 1997 under Bismark Hunter. Hope the grammer is better, Any more info please ask thank you crop sprayer mick

G-ANFL TIGER MOTH
Looks like the CAA filing system went a bit haywire and included a sheet for Heron G-ANFF on the page for G-ANFL. Maybe we should all have gone to specsavers including someone at the CAA!
Cropsprayer is a newbie here and like everyone it takes a little time to get to know how the forum works and the best way to post.
Cropsprayer – if you are still out there- I have traced picture of Jackaroo G-APHZ when it was operating with Airspray and have posted a link on your original thread.
Hi thanks to every one who replied, I have most of the info now, and know where it was stored inbetween 1965 and 1986 . Sorry for the bad gramer but when i left school i could not read or write but i walked into a skilled job as a mechanic the day i left school, spent 14 years tuning rr griffons won multiple business awards so it did not affect how successful i was, and i still carnt read very well carnt count but build top class engines oh yes. thank you for all your help every one , i will try harder

I think Crop Sprayer assumed that everyone here reads all the threads and he had posted more details of Percy Hatfield in a previous thread about Airspray and Boxted airfield.
Yup and it might have been easier to reply to your original, recent thread here

WJ244,
the first entry for G-ANFL relates to a de havilland DH.114 CN 14036
the second entry relates to the Tiger in question

There was no Heron ANFL – please have a closer look – it reads ANFF
G-ANFF was a de Havilland Heron 114 1B, c/n 14036, reg Oct 16,53
became JA6152 January 1954

Ooops – Thanks for that. I never even thought of checking that the entries all referred to the same aircraft as in those days it was unusual for registrations to get reused. I did notice that date of first registration was about 1953 but assumed that prior to this the Tiger had been stored after RAF service and looked no further.

Who is `percy`?..or try the CAA website,or `google` ..G-INFO`….
Well I know who he means but only because I have local links to the area-but agree it was a slightly rambling and somewhat vague way of asking a question.
Percy Hatfield was the owner of Airspray at Colchester (Boxted) and he owned several Tigers and a Champion Challenger G-ASSN in which he sadly lost his life whilst crop spraying near Boreham Essex.
He had a distinguished wartime career and was credited with helping to find the Bismark on one occasion-whilst flying a Catalina.

Below is the link to the listing on G-INFO
http://http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=reg&fullregmark=ANFL
According to G-INFO it appears that G-ANFL was sold in Japan on 25/1/54 so she is either well travelled or the sale fell through and she never left the UK.
From the CAA listing it appears that Airspray sold G-ANFL in 1961 and bought her back again in 1963.
The CAA were notified on 8-6-67 that the aircraft was permanently withdrawn from use so it is likely that she was stored from 1967 until 1984 when the current owners reregistered her.
It will be difficult to track down where she was stored unless an enthusiast just happened to know through local knowledge or has photos.
You could try contacting the photographers who have posted old photos on the Air Britain Photos (ABPIC) site or there is also a photographer on the same site called Richard Vandervord who used to run a spotters newsletter called Anglia Aeronews in the 70’s and at that time he seemed to have a pretty good knowledge of most aircraft that were tucked away in barns etc in Essex and the rest of East Anglia.
It is amazing what was tucked away in barns. An example in an area that you may know would be the garage almost opposite the Bell pub at Rettendon, essex on the old A130. In the 70’s the garage was known as SRV Motors and the workshop held a fully assembled Tiger Moth and Auster which subsequently found their way to Southend. The Tiger Moth G-AIDS now operates from the strip at Barleylands farm, Billericay.
You could also try sending a letter to the current owners address given on G-INFO to find out how they obtained the aircraft.
It is always possible that it stayed at Boxted after the airfield closed. If the farmer had no use for the building he probably wouldn’t have been too worried about aircraft in storage there.

….and here was me thinking this was a forum about aircraft rather than an English language masterclass…. silly me…
Yes Yak ,you are correct…but the OP is far more likely to get the info he requires if he makes his question as clear as possible.
If that means taking an extra few moments to add some full stops and caps …it will be worth it.The more people that can understand the , the more answers are likely to come.
to Crop sprayer:
I had a dyslexic wife – I do understand….but no punctuation or not using the Caps is not about dyslexia …just rushing .
You want replies – so make it as easy as you can for people to understand what you are asking.
Try asking on the ABiX site…someone there will have what you want. There are people there who could tell you every time the aircraft had an oil leak.

Please don’t think I’m getting at you, but your postings would be much easier to understand with a bit of punctuation and a few capitals.
You would possibly get more replies.

Hey Crop, please use full stops! 🙂
It helps being understood and no doubt, you will stand a better chance at getting a very nice reply.
