Anyone heard about a Tiger Moth prang at Kidlington over the weekend? If so, any details?

Aha, that’s good news then, sorry I missed the bit that said it was removed after the event. I’ll be glad to see her depart for repair as the poor old lady was still sat there when I came past this morning, looking rather sad. I hate seeing aircraft sitting idle regardless of type but my 20 minute flight was an eye opener and I’ve now got as big a soft spot for the Tiger Moth as I have for the Chipmunk.

And when exactly did you see it Mike? Was it sometime afterwards or did you see it actully happen i’e the aircraft landed with the prop missing? The prop was removed after the incident…..

Rubbish to you – maybe, but I can assure you she was sat there with no prop as I saw it myself and I think you may well find that if the mlg collapsed the prop will now be matchsticks and they’ll possibly have a shock loaded engine to boot.

Maybe a bit more serious than we thought. According to the guys who were on duty that day she lost bits of the engine including the whirly thing on the front. She’s going nowhere for a while yet as she’s still sat out on the airfield looking very sad with no prop on the front. Amazing how something as small as a Tiger Moth prop hub can be so conspicuous by its absence.
Never heard so much rubbish….Ses G-AXAN’s post above The prop never departed, and the aircraft only had a rough running engine, so landed back onto the airfield after taking off on Rwy 27. Left MLG collapsed after a fairly heavy landing. A fairly minor incident me thinks.
…..Or did anyone else see the pilot avoiding a school as he fought with the controls, combined with ‘Harvard like’ engine sound in the background, followed by a HUGE American style fireball…….?

Tiger at Kidkington
To my knowledge the Tiger at Kidlington had a partial engine failure on take off, the pilot turned to land cross wind on the grass but landed on a rough piece of ground, which coupled with the cross wind, ground looped the aircraft. When I looked at it I could see no evidence of the landing gear having collapsed, but ther was a lot of grass and mud between the tyre and wheel rim. The prop was damaged and removed. Another Tiger was ferried in last Friday to take over. This Tiger moved on to Shuttleworth on Saturday and will be be used at Stapleford next week.

incident with GT at Kiddlington was a minor one and GT certainly will be airborn again later this week for a ferry to Sywell and some scheduled maintanence.

Wednesday, nothing happened over the weekend. Delta don’t seem to be having much luck with their Tiger Moths this year, what with ‘DJ crashing a few weeks back. Was chatting with their ground handler yesterday and he didn’t think ‘GT would be back in the air this year, but it’s amazing how quickly some repairs can be done given the money and organisation.

AgCat
briefly heard something on the local news late last week(sorry can’t remember exact day).
Said something about a Tiger Moth suffering a collapsed undercarriage at Kidlington, but thankfully no injuries to the two occupants. That’s all I know, but hope it helps
