Just a quick one. Does anyone on here know what the wheel track width is on a DH82a Tiger Moth?. Thanks in advance

Nice to have a definitive answer. I always thought I was an aviation fanatic (according to my wife I am) but given the knowledge of some of the members on this site I am hardly worthy of being called an enthusiast, probably mildly interested would be a fairer description.

Unloaded (ie airborne) 5 foot.
Empty aeroplane (ie on the hangar floor with no petrol or bodies) 5 foot 3 ins
Fully loaded 5 foot 4 1/2 ins
Fully loaded and giving the ground a very hearty smack, approx 5 foot 6 ins.
The “compressed” dimensions above depend on the condition of the internal springs and also just how hard the wheels smack the ground. After a really good smacking, the “on the floor” measurement may also be 5 foot and quite a few inches. Measurement are taken on Tigers ‘AQA and’AIA.

I’m assuming that as it is in the leading particulars section, it relates to the aircraft at empty weight in the rigging position. Just an assumption though

Looking at the geometry of the undercarriage I would have thought so. Would be interesting to know if it does and if so one would assume that was the measurement with weight on it. What it changed to under flight conditions wouldn’t really matter unless it fell of completely, that might just be a day spoiler.

Does it vary with load?
