Hi everyone, my first post on this forum……
I seem to remember reading a thread on the recent Legends show where someone had read in the show programme that the Tigercat was performing it’s last display in the U.K. and was soon to leave for the U.S. Can anyone confirm this please, despite leaving in S Devon I make the annual pilgrimage to Duxford for the Legends show and if true will be a sad loss to TFC’s airworthy collection.

Why do they always go to the USA and never somewhere in Europe or down under?
Is the TFC getting a P-40?
James
TFCs last P40 didn’t go to the USA, it only moved to North Weald, just down the M11.
TFCs previous P51D ‘Candyman’ didn’t even move that far. It only moved 1 hangar along at Duxford, although in the process somebody made the rather sad move of repainting it (I always loved the ‘Candyman/Moose’ scheme). It now flies as ‘Ferocious Frankie’ with OFMC.
Actually, thinking about it, the original TFC Hurricane is still Duxford as well.
Although it’s true that many do go to the US, new aircraft come the other way from there as well (Hawk75, P39 etc) so it isn’t all bad.

Pen Pusher…if you are able to spare any weekdays I travel to TFC every day Monday-Friday from St.Ives and would happily give you a lift.
Thank you very much for the offer Bograt but unfortunately I would soon use up all my leave if I went during the week. No problems with weekends though.
However next year I may be needing something to occupy my time during the week what with the closure of parts of RAF Wyton and the possibility of redundancy/retirement looming. 😮
Thanks again for the offer

We are very very lucky that TFC came into being and yes we probably largely take it for granted now.
Trade, swaps and surprise visitors are big bonuses too.
All a huge personal cost and probably over and above the gate receipt share.
As well as the human cost………
But, PLEASE PLEASE! pleease!……finish the Beaufighter and let her at least fly once over these shores again.
A very important Aeroplane indeed.

Not sure if my PM reached you, I would love to be a volunteer with TFC. Please PM me if you wish.

As an ‘ex’ DAS volunteer at Duxford (Sunderland), I would love nothing better than to come down and sweep the floor, paint strip panels, and any other menial tasks that help TFC in any way.
However, I too have gone down the ‘girlfriends, marriage, babies, old age’ path (if 36 is old age?? – certainly feels like it or is that just the sleep deprevation caused by my 12week old son???), and sadly just don’t have the free time anymore (although I did make it to Legends – fantastic). For anyone who IS in a position to volunteer I would thoroughly recommend it. Not only do you get up close to real aeroplanes, but you can be part of a team, feel pride when you see a project finished, learn a lot of new skills (I’m still bloody good with a yard broom!!!), meet many likeminded people, and generally have a great time.
As for the Tigercat, it’s sad (but not that surprising) to see it going, but look on the bright side. Maybe at Legends next year the Bearcat and Hellcat will fly together and we can see what the Hellcat can really do, rather than see it always pottering around behind the slower Wildcat.
Cheers
Willow
Use to do work on the Catalina, was traveling a few times a year from the netherlands and spent a week working. During summer time you flew to airshowes and be part of the whole thing. Now live has changed, but I still look for opertunities to do an airshow ore two a year with the Cat.

Guys & Girls
Our problem is that our volunteer work force has become rather depleted for varying reasons, girlfriends, marriage, babies, old age, the wife/husband won’t let me, better things to do etc.

Having gratuitously photographed TFC aircraft over the years (see photo gallery link below) it would be nice to give something back in return and having started my MoD career way back in 1980 sweeping hanger floors at Scampton, in between washing Vulcans of course, I would be well qualified for that job.
Unfortunately I have to use public transport at the moment as my motorbike has gone a bit terminal and may be a couple of months before I get a new one. It is a bit difficult getting to Duxford on a Sunday as bus services in this part of Cambridgeshire are not very frequent that day. When I get mobile again I will certainly get in touch and see if volunteers are still required.
Keep up the good work
