Well it seems that TIGHAR Ric came up a bit short for funding the Niku VIII project. ‘We can find Amelia Earhart’ .004% of goal.
Seems now that he is hanging his pith helmet on that scrap of aluminum recovered on Nikumaroro and I quote, “Now one of our artifacts, 2-2-V-1, appears to be poised to be the smoking gun everyone has been demanding. It will not, however, be the Any Idiot Artifact we’ve longed for.”
Huh??

Critters Remove Amelia’s Body and Secrete?
Wasn’t me, Guv’nor…
TIGHAR pop up again now with added crap!
Michael, regarding your misreading of the title – The words “nail” squarely” and “head” immediately spring to mind! :eagerness:

Why did not the DM article question why that single piece was found on the island – what happened to the rest of the aircraft???
Perhaps it just fell off as they were flying over the island. Apparently Rosie the Riveter was only doing her internship in Miami in early 1937!

Amelia crashed on the Prome Road – Astonishing new eye-witness account. TIGHAR digging ‘in the wrong place’
It won’t be long I guess.

When are they starting on Burma?

Anyone see the documentary last week on one of the discovery channels?( probably a repeat) for me at least, there’s no doubting Rick Gillespie’s sincerity, but I suspect that like those that have gone before, he is digging in the wrong place, and is absolutely wedded to the idea that they crashed on that island, and as CD says, they do seem to be trying to fit known facts into that particular theory.

The crabs have chewed it up and carried it back to their nests. But that piece was made from a different alUminUm that doesn’t taste so good.
(Do you gather I can’t take TIGHAR seriously?)

Am I missing something? Why did not the DM article question why that single piece was found on the island – what happened to the rest of the aircraft???

Maybe the original poster should add an “O” to the title word POP ?

And yet more…
It would seem something of a coincidence that the only piece of Amelia’s aircraft that TIGHAR claim to have found is the only piece that cannot be positively identified as coming from her aircraft (or not); not impossible but statistically very, very unlikely.
The photograph doesn’t really change much; TIGHAR really need a piece of Amelia’s aircraft not just a piece that could be from Amelia’s aircraft (or could be from another unidentified aircraft).
TIGHAR have their theory; nothing wrong with that but any theory should fit the evidence. I always get the impression that TIGHAR want to fit their evidence to their theory whilst ignoring some other rather inconvenient evidence.

I reckon Tighar is a bit like what’s happening to railway preservation in the UK, Railway enthusiasts have always been the dirt clinging to someones shoe, but now that a lot of money is spent on the preserved railways a lot of toffs have started to find them and their activities socially acceptable, so are starting to take over.

It might have been a Freudian moment but I first perceived that as “Amelia Earhart had Crabs”. 😀

I noted that, in the Daily Mail article, the word crabs was in majuscules (‘Did CRABS hide Amelia Earhart’s remains?’). Thus I assumed it to be an acronym. Should I be offering to make an award for the most appropriate originating words for that acronym?
I was thinking something along the lines of Committee for the Recycling of Absolute B##l S##t!

TIGHAR continue to prove that it’s possible to have more money than sense…
TIGHAR continue to prove that it’s possible to raise more money…..than aircraft! 😉
