I have just noticed it reported on the Fighter Control forum that Tim has passed away.
Tim was a frequent poster on here as WH904.
Tim has penned numerous aviation books and articles over the years and is well respected for the depth of the research.

This is very sad news.
I always remember his posts on UKAR and I loved the way he stuck to his guns on a difficult forum that was and is blighted by one or two awful moderators ( one of whom appears to divide his time between being a publicist for Labour and the Lockheed Martin F35 program!)
Tim’s posts were both informative and entertaining and his books excellent.
RIP

I will also miss him and his writing. RIP Tim.

Tim always had a soft spot for RAF St Mawgan and was always interested in these threads.
I once put up a thread on collecting those black plastic profile plaques produced in the 70s/80s, Tim pitched up at SpitfireCorner one summers day and handed over some I hadn’t got.
When I see dayglo/red paint applied to historic aircraft, I always smile and think ‘nice one Tim’.
This forum will be a little duller without him.
Blue skies

A sad loss – Tim had strong views and whether you agreed or not the forum was better for having a person with a spirit and passion for historic aviation
Yep, seconded. It seems he had softened somewhat the last year or so.
And indeed, a lot of people will miss his mostly well-informed posts.
Like many I have books written by him on my bookshelves.

RIP, he seemed like a person with a good deal of integrity, who always stuck by his views and argued his corner, whether or not they were the same as anybody else’s. I’ll miss his posts on here.

Nooooo :apologetic: I really enjoyed his posts.
My heartfelt condolences to his family at this trying time.

I heard this sad news at the IPMS Dinner on Saturday night. I was pleased to have known Tim as a keen modeller and a very early customer of many years. The books he authored in the recent times showed real detail and content.
RIP

So sad to hear. 🙁
Last I heard from Tim was when he was updating some of the Action Station volumes and I provided him with some photos.

was he the Tim who used to be a member of Sheffield IPMS in the days when it met on West Street?
He was a member of IPMS Sheffield – still lived in Sheffield as well I beleive.

How dreadful for his family! We had our differences on here from time to time but I enjoyed those of his books I read, very much.

Nothing sinister about the names, Tim had a change in personal circumstances and changed his surname, that’s all.
By: Thunderbird167 - 9th November 2015 at 10:47
Tim had works published under both surnames over the years, the reasons for which I do not know
A few here as Tim Laming
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tim-Laming/e/B001K8870Q/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0
And those as Tim Mclelland
Tim will be missed, he was always stoic in his views, free with his advice, to those who asked, and always ready to challenge the norm.
Whilst I did not always agree with his comments we always agreed to disagree and move on to the next topic
At least you saw the last of XH558
Blue skies Tim

Awww blimey,i assume this was the same chap who was posting alot recently about the Vulcan. He certainly divided opinions, sorry to hear it .Did he use 2 surnames?

I am stunned, thats tragic news to say the least. Tims views were not always agreeable to many but I think he was a well respected aviation writer.
Thoughts are with his family.

What awful news. I won’t pretend that Tim and I always saw eye to eye, but regardless, our world is the poorer for his passing.
