Purely hypothetical ! The production line at Woodford has been
cleared of the last remaining Jetstream 61’s and RJ’s -they have set up to build the ‘last’ production aircraft on the site using some
Lancaster jigs that have been ‘discovered’ in the bushes.
This will be a ‘new’ production Lancaster using a budget of £25 million. The dilema is which type or indeed example do you want recreated?

We need to ensure a similar fate doesn’t happen to more modern types with a historic mission history – Vulcan XM607 for example, by no means with a secure future
Yes I agree very highly with this point one day it will end up getting scrapped and replaced with a Nimrod or Awack and that will be a big shame.

That’s alright; the Lancastrian will be highly polished, so his dead fly wiping duties on it would be so much easier. 😀
Oops, musn’t grin, I’ll get flies in me teeth… 🙂

Of course as the Lancastrian will be going around the world, I’ll cordially invite you all on board to fly in to some of the world’s finest airshows with me. Oshkosh, Sun ‘n’ Fun, Dubai, Paris, Legends. And we’ll see if we can get a few air to air sessions lined up for Roger, Damien, Manonthefence and Yak11Fan.

Oh dear, someone’s just woken me up. I was enjoying my dream…. 🙁

As we are talking about hypothetically finding tooling, lets assume that the tooling for Hercules engines were also discovered.
A brand new Mk11 …….

I’d vote for the Manchester.
I’m still gobsmacked that Gibson’s aircraft survived the war and was unceremoniously scrapped at Scampton in 1947. We need to ensure a similar fate doesn’t happen to more modern types with a historic mission history – Vulcan XM607 for example, by no means with a secure future.

Brilliant idea Steve,I’d go along with that!I’ll probably get shot down in flames for this, but I think the Lancastrian makes the Lancaster look like an ugly duckling!
As for which particular example,I think I’d have it finished in BSAA colours.Would be nice to think that it could be fitted out with a passenger carrying cabin which met modern requirements and make flights avaialble in her, that’d put a smile on a few people’s faces! ( The face of one Welshman in particular! :D)

Have Avro really stopped making Handley-Page and de Havilland aeroplanes yet?
Avroliner, my a**e.
Lancastrian’s a good idea.

Well, as we are currently blessed with two airworthy examples, a taxiable ground runner, and a number of historic static airframes in their own right, I don’t really feel the need to create a new one. Besides, even if I did go for a brand new ED932, it wouldn’t be the actual aircraft that Gibson took to the Moehne and back.
So mine’s a bit of an odd choice. I’ll have a brand new Lancastrian please. Externally authentic, but I’ll have all the modern navaids fitted please. I’d like to fly her around the world. 🙂
