Time out for me

Dear all,

I have given this a lot of thought today and over recent times and have decided to leave this forum (and others) as an active poster. Due to a still present bout of depression (from the recent break up) and just feeling plain redundant nowadays with so many more capable contributors present, I just don’t have the zest anymore to continue with this, and the thrill has gone for me so to speak.

This is in no part due to anyone from this or another forum, its just me, I am tired, really tired, things are getting to me, I am 33 next month and I need a BREAK.
I will still be lurking from time to time, but I intend to dedicate more of my time to my unfinished articles and catching up on some neglected reading. I need to get away and try and catch up on the rest of life.

I will still do my best to answer any questions anyone might have about something if they feel I am worthy enough to answer them, but you will have to e-mail me. I am always happy to help.

Best wishes to all and good luck for the future. Sorry.

Regards, Glenn

Garry..

Thanks for the advice, but I have been through worse believe me (high school was hell) and I have never sought any advice that I had to pay for, friends were usually enough. I believe what doesn’t kill makes you stronger, but we all still have the Achilles heal I guess.

BTW, the Yak book sounds worthy. Does it have much on the Yak-45? The Yak-45 was a contender (along with the heavy Mig-29) for the Soviet PFI competition in 1970 which eventually went to the T-10, or Su-27 as we now know it.

Thanks again and cheers, Glenn.

Thanks for staying!

Glenn,

As one of the unfortunate ‘been there, done that’-guys who wish they couldn’t relate to you… all the best of luck and strength.

Do try to stay with your interests even if your love and life seems gone, as it will be a tough nut to crack if you want to catch up with it again later. It’s good to read you’re staying.

Best regards,

Arthur

Thanks all..I will stick around

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-04-02 AT 01:39 PM (GMT)]All the comments have given me a lot of heart and I let out a lot of pent up feelings on Sunday. I felt very low on that day and just didn’t see myself doing much of anything for a while.

However, I feel much better now, not cured of my broken heart but better none the less, and thus I have decided to stick at it. Besides, with all that is happening in the world its hard to stay away for too long and not say something. Cold turkey from the net is not that easy I tell you.

I have come to realise though that certain things are not to be neglected (like the Woman you love), and while I am still single – and unattached – I will make the most of MY free time.

Thanks to all you guys for your kind words. They mean a lot really. 🙂

Regards, Glenn.

RE: Shot in the arm if you needed one pal!

Look at the comments above.

You’d be missed if you didnt come here. Like Garry says being lonely and depressed is an awful lot worse than just being depressed!

The way I’ve gotten myself out of equivalent situations is to focus on a goal, probably too much, and then after I’ve completed it poke my head up again and see how the world looks. To date its always looked better just after I’ve accomplished something so, yep, I’d very much recommend you finish off your projects. If theyre military in nature, like the ones you did on Warships1, and you need an impartial proof-read/sanity check my inbox is available 24/7/365 and I’d be happy to help.

Just, if you can stand some fatuous do-gooding advice, don’t go too far away from people who respect your opinion. You have that here and its sometimes difficult to come by in the real world and a thread you can contribute to, to a level that you consider satisfactory, may just be around the corner.

I know this as I was wanting to kick off a question on the Aussie SEA4000 AAW DDG project and was just waiting for a good opportunity (some suitable RAAF thread I could corrupt etc!) to slip it in. Your input along with Min’s, perhaps Garry’s and a few others were the one’s I was most expectant of!.

Regards and respects,
Steve

RE: Time out for me

Glenn, my friend,

First of all: you shouldn’t feel redundant at all!! You’ve certainly made a valuable addition to this forum IMO. So I’m sad to see you leave.

But you must do what you feel is best of course. Having been through a major depression myself once I know it’s terrible. Good luck, get well soon. Seek help when you feel it’s getting too much. And what Garry said is true: isolation is not always beneficial in such cases. Although a break once in a while can be good.

Get well soon! Maybe we’ll see you again someday.

Ference.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-04-02 AT 02:48 AM (GMT)]Often isolation is not the best solution for depression.

I know we (Kiwis and Aussies) don’t have any tradition of seeing Psychologists but perhaps you might find it more useful to get professional advice.

BTW
Having gone right through that Putnam book on Yakovlev I would have to say the stuff I found most interesting was on the Yak-44 naval AWACs plane, the Yak-43 stealth version of the Yak-141, and the very interesting section on RPVs.
