RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
Rabie, what is “AFAIK?” You’ll please have to clear that up for me. And I still think some of those planes were blatant copies, bigger, small, evolutionary, or otherwise. Not that I have hard data on this, or anything, What do I know?

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
the TU 144 was the worlds first supersonic commercial jet although Concorde came in service first….but still the TU 144 was the worlds first official supersonic jet when it did a Mach 2 flight in 1968. So in this case you cant say who copied who. Even USA was in the race and had signed a deal with Boeing for ES220, which was the code name for the prototype which never happened due to lack of funds and interest.

“blatant copies of some U.S. fighters“
No. AFAIK i can’t think of fighter that are directly alike. some were responses to american planes, and other were natural evolution.
the tu-160 looks liek the b1 superficaially but is so much bigger and tasked diffrently that i think the similarity is superficail. proable the same with concordski (tu-144?)

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
Wasn’t the IL-62 a blantant copy of the VC10 back in the day, as well? Also, a few of the MIG’s were blatant copies of some U.S. fighters, like the F-15. When the TU-204 was first introduced, it only had Russian engines. Eventually, they wised up, and offered the RB211’s, and it subsequently sold a few more copies than they would have normally.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-06-02 AT 09:55Â PM (GMT)]I think it looks cool. It certainly looks like a 757. But then I always liked the 757/767 range of aircraft

Nice looking jet, love the blended winglets, great c/s too, and as for the choice of engines, what more can I say, superb choice!

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
I too can see a link between the 757 and A320 family. It’s certainly a very nice aircraft and I’m impressed because I’ve never been particularly keen on the work of Tupolev.

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
If i remember correctly i saw the prototype at Farnborough in 1990.
I believe they had Russian perm engines.
Anyone know if the TNT planes have RR engines?
Looks nice though.

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
It is indeed a great looking plane, but it’s just a bloody shame that they are regristred and flown from Belguim soil.
best regards,

RE: TNT’s first TU 204-120C
Good looker!
Strange aeroplane though. It seems similar to a 757, yet the 757 is an old design and some airlines are replacing them. Is the Tupolev 20 years behind the times?
