Bashing the curcuit is required for guys who don’t have more than 500 hours on multicrew aircraft over 20 tonnes. Whenever you saw Virgin aircraft curcuit training it was probably the ex-RAF fast jet guys. The Harrier and Jag guys on my course will be going to Prestwick. I’ll let you know the dates when I know.

I start flying passengers at the beginning of the line training stage (ie early/mid August). I am ZFT (zero flight time) qualified for the A340 which means my first ever landing on the real aeroplane will be after flying it halfway round the world with a full load of passengers! Perhaps they should give a discount for those brave souls!
Those were the days (only 5-6 years ago) when a Virgin 747 or A340 bashed the circuit at Manston for an hour or two with crews changing places. They even asked for the PAPI lights to be turned off sometimes. It was the first place I saw a A340. I suppose a simulator is as good for training now but no fun for us spectators. 🙂

wsiwgy,
I honestly hope you do really well in all of your tests and exams and wish you all the best. The tests sound horrible but I’m sure it’s woth it at the end!!
I wish I could swap places with you and I could be training for the A340!!! and you could go down my local comp with the yobs and time-waisters and useless teachers who don’t have a clue…. I bet your not tempted.

Wow, remember the anti-perspirant for that one! 😉

Ha ha, well have fun and enjoy that first flight, if there are any discounts going I’ll gladly take one up and get some photos for ya. Now that reminds me… I’ve just been persuaded to take some shots for the chaps at RAF Kinloss onboard a four hour Nimrod sortie.
I’m reliably informed that a sick bag or two will be useful !!! 😮 Hopefully the same advice won’t be necessary on board your A340. :p

hope all goes well and good luck in the training

So can you expect to be working straight after that Ian or is there more waiting for a suitable opening in staffing to arise ?
By: wysiwyg - 19th June 2004 at 21:54
I get back from Toulouse early/mid August and start line training on the A340-300 straight away. I then have ground school for the A340-600 in late September and finish off my line training on that.

Drinking from the firehose…..I don’t miss it. 🙂
Congrats on the first test score. I always found that the first test was a guage for the rest of my performance in training. If I fell behind early it was hard to catch up. Wysiwyg, you’re clearly on your way to a top notch finish.

Hope the training material is in French 😀

If this thing is as good to fly as it is difficult to learn it’ll be just great! Passed my first exam yesterday with 97%. My alarm goes off at 0640 and I work solidly through to between midnight and 0100. Weekends are similar except I work at home and don’t bother starting until about 0900. This is a rare break to let me get my head back together!
